I think I like it less for pitchers than position players. The only part that makes sense to me is pitching for a contender every year.

From a club POV though, they don't have to risk long term dollars on an arm that's basically always 1 pitch away from being gone for an entire year, and then gambling on a return to the exact same form as before.

Position players have far less injury risk overall.

Tye following 2 scenarios assume everything is equal.

First, would you rather have Trout signed for 10 years 300 million, or Kershaw?

Second, would you rather only have Trout on a 1 year deal for 45 million... or Kershaw?

Well yeah, but I'm talking about the player's point of view since they're the ones that can dictate the years on a contract. That's why I said it makes more sense for the hitter to go year to year imo (at least earlier in their careers).

Sure, any player should also, theoretically, be better going 1 year at a time as soon as they are out if the 6-7 year thing.

But.... it's the clubs offering deals. Trout probably could make more money year by year, but the clubs want that guy long term because of the lesser risks involved. Highly doubt teams would only want the best position players 1 year at a time.

Sounds like the Machado deal is done. Just going through physicals. No confirmation on what team yet.

I hope the Orioles f*** this up. Although it's pretty hard to screw up a very good return on Manny.

He's been vocal on how stupid it is for GM's to sign pitchers long term. so he's sticking to his word as well. I love him...might not work out for him but f*** I'd pay him millions after his career to be in the booth

Holy crap - I didn't realize what a s*** show it was in Baltimore this year. Who was it in here who was going on and on and on about how the Jays should have traded for Tim Beckham and how they need someone like him. Jones, Schoop, Davis, Mancini, Beckham, Valencia....all balls.

It's really hard to imagine them winning 50 games this year and that's pretty crazy to say.

I think he should be the new drone camera operator.

Unsurprisingly, elite starters in relief are f***ing disgusting. Straight filth being thrown in the All-Star game.

Yup, Nola looked unreal in his inning.

I would prefer he go to the Dodgers. Saves more prospects from the Phillies. They seem to be the team with the most buzz around Happ.

First domino to fall. Hopefully this make Philly turn to Happ next.

Man I wish JD was healthy.

I find it hard to believe the O's will eat any money. Seems to go counter to everything else they do.

I wonder if they'd cough up a decent prospect if we were to take Ryu and Forsythe off their hands to ease the luxury tax issues?

Apparently the O’s are getting five prospects for Machado. Hopefully none of them are any good.

Wishful thinking. Not even Baltimore is stupid enough to trade Machado for nothing. And that's saying alot because Baltimore is really f***ing stupid

If they're getting that much volume, it seems iffy that the quality is on the high end. We'll see.

It's been rumoured that Yusniel Diaz and Dustin May are two of them. I mean, they're pretty good.

Yusniel Diaz, Dustin May and Errol Robinson. People are saying Gavin Lux was in the deal but they didn't like the medicals.

The Orioles definitely got a good deal here an potentially more if 5 players are true. Really really sucks Donaldson couldn't stay healthy.
