Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Was it Ang who was suggesting that Jose Ramirez is on PED's and will be the next one caught? I remember reading something like that on here. Well apparently those rumors have hit the majors, with a report out that Jose will be the next person to receive an 80 game suspension. Ramirez/Cleveland obviously is denying this. Grab your popcorn.

King Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Wo, I had no idea it was quite that bad. At 24, and with almost 1100 PA under his belt, he's pretty much a non-asset in 20-team dynasty leagues at this point. Lets not forget that Jimcanuck traded Kyle Tucker and a 1st for Buxton last summer and rubbed it in everyones face when he went on a month long tear.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Why do the White Sox keep subjecting Giolito to this humiliation?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Rizzo just blew up the pirates catcher with a take out slide at home - causing him to throw wild and allow 2 runners to score. I so thought we were past that ********, but the announcers seem to think it was a great slide. A real baseball play. FWIW... the MLB said both the on field umpire and review umpire got it wrong in an apology.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 FWIW... the MLB said both the on field umpire and review umpire got it wrong in an apology. lol how does that even happen?

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 SSS but Soto is OPS'ing 1.076 so far. 3-3 tonight wit a SB
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 FWIW... the MLB said both the on field umpire and review umpire got it wrong in an apology. I saw that. Madden went on a rant today about how he didn't think the pirates would retaliate bc it was a clean play. He said some obnoxious things.

Hey man, go easy. Jim is a smart guy. Clearly what has happened is that Buxton is so deeply affected by having Trump as his president that it's thrown him off his game completely. When Russia stuff happens, we'll see Byron blossom into the stud we know he is.

Suggesting the catcher needs to move further away from home plate to avoid the slide? He was nowhere near the plate when Rizzo slide into him (making contact with him before his knee or butt even hit the ground). I just lost a lot of respect for Madden - and Rizzo too (who I used to think was great).
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Alex Reyes with 2 k's and a pickoff in his first inning back.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Real quote from the FG comments section, with 78 upvotes: Is there a more pompous ******* in baseball than Joe Maddon? John Gibbons might be the only one remotely close. He’s an okay manager who acts like he’s superior to everyone. The schtick has gotten real old. Is there a less pompous ******* in baseball than John Gibbons?

He was nowhere near the plate when Rizzo slide into him (making contact with him before his knee or butt even hit the ground). I just lost a lot of respect for Madden - and Rizzo too (who I used to think was great). It's hard for a manager in that position... I don't don't put too much stock in it because had the situation been reversed, each manager would likely be saying the opposite of what they said this time. Irrespective of that, it's debatable about whether that type of play is dirty, or whether the rule change should have been made in teh first place, but what isn't arguable is that slide was absolutely against the rules as they are written now. He clearly changed the direction of his running path in order to make contact with the catcher and took him out. Nobody can watch that video and come to a different conclusion without being willfully ignorant.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 I agree that the slide was a violation of the rules as they currently stand, but I don't think it was particularly dirty, reckless or egregious. Rizzo just clipped his back foot and the catcher lost his balance. I can understand Hurdle's frustration because it WAS a rule violation, and Maddon's because he feels his player tried to break up a double play, which has been a part of the game for a long time. I gotta say, I'm not a big fan of the Utley rule. Injuries from slides were pretty rare and I feel like a baserunner should have an opportunity to assist the current batter running to first.
