BTS Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Wow pitching prospects suck so bad Trade Pearson this summer please I remember how snarky Cameron was last offseason when the Twins wouldn't trade Dozier straight up for De Leon.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 (edited) TJS for Jose De Leon He looks cooked. 2nd one right? Nah... this had me thinking he did before. "De Leon opened the season on the Minor League DL due to discomfort in the Flexor Mass Muscle in the forearm, which is a precursor to Tommy John Surgery." Edited March 7, 2018 by Spanky99
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 TJS for Jose De Leon He looks cooked. Every single pitching prospect I get. I swear....

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Anthony Gose the Astros Rule 5 pick (as a reliever) lasted 3 batters (all walked) before the Astros decided he wasn't going to make the 25 man.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Rays release Dustin McGowan Might be the end for him Been a tough road. Glad he was able to put in a decent amount of bullpen work these last few years because it easily could have ended a lot sooner. He's about to turn 36, a pretty normal age to hang it up.

He was still averaging 94 mph last year. He may have to spend some time in AAA, but someone will probably give him some MLB innings at some point in the season.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Mike Moustakas gets 1/6.5 despite being projected for 2-3 wins in his age-29 season. Time to throw away the $9 million per WAR value we use for free agents, because teams aren’t paying that anymore. Dude turned down 1/17 a few months ago. This is nuts.

Well Hosmer also got 8/$144M so it's hard to just flat out say that. It was a weird offseason for sure though, there's definitely a shift in philosophy regarding contracts and free agency leaguewide.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Complete and utter failure by Boras.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 You have to think Josh Donaldson is sweating just a little bit right now. Even if he has an MVP season, he's not going to hit the pay day he's dreaming on.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Complete and utter failure by Boras. Apparently the 2.2M in bonuses are reached if Moose gets 450 PA, so he should get them. But still, Moose must be livid. Boras cost him $9-11M in 2018 alone by advising him to decline the QO. That's a lot of money for a guy who hasn't made that much in his career.

On the plus side, though, I hope this scares the s*** out of JD.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 What a strange market. Any gm with money and a decent squad could have put together a playoff team. Moose 6.5M Alonoso or Morrison 6.5/8M Cozart 13M Carlos Gomez 4M Ianneta 4M
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Perhaps the true value of a WAR is tied to the position on the field For example, 3B who produce more than 2 WARs are plentiful, but how many Catchers produce 2 WARs. Therefore, a Catcher who produces 2 WAR is much more valuable then a 3B. Just a thought.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 This is unbelievable. The FA market has tanked to the point where the Jays' offseason activity which looked brilliant at first now looks merely okay in comparison.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 If you're running the Padres and you gave Eric f***ing Hosmer that much money only to watch guys like Moose and LoMo sign for (combined) less than one year of Hosmer... aren't you literally blowing your brains out right now?

Yeah that's pretty rough. They probably could have taken the money they would have given Hosmer and spread it out over several different positions and fielded a wild card contender. Moose, Lomo, Cobb, etc.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Hindsight, sure, but... *Mind you that Hosmer signing was DUMN*
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Braden Halladay makes squad as expected.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Braden Halladay makes squad as expected. Just a great story. Should provide him with a nice platform to showcase his talents as well pitching for Team Canada. It would be truly special if we got to see him pitch against the Blue Jays the one that's being broadcasted coast to coast across Canada.

BTS Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Lucroy to Oakland on a 1-year deal. I'm predicting 6M.

It was a weird offseason for sure though, there's definitely a shift in philosophy regarding contracts and free agency leaguewide. The way teams are assessing value now has definitely changed. You can get two win players for around $5m now. I wonder how the market will look next year. The big guys will get their money, but the mid and lower tier guys will be interesting to watch.
