Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Brinson, Diaz, Harrison, and Yamamoto. I don’t care much for it. Not so dissimilar from the Alford package I proposed
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I'm so glad I'm not a Marlins fan.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 As a Brinson fantasy owner, I'm pist.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Not so dissimilar from the Alford package I proposed Isn't Brinson the 13th overall prospect? Wouldn't that make it closer to Bo++?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 If we were that close on the package, I wonder if we will now push to sign Cain?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 If we were that close on the package, I wonder if we will now push to sign Cain? Maybe that was before the Grichuk trade.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I deleted my post as I shouldn't have called you a tool, it might be because I didn't state my case clearly. I'm talking about historical use of the "character clause". Ferguson Jenkins, Tim Raines voters publicly stated that they weren’t voting because of cocaine use…same voters put Paul Molitor in on a first ballot. Robbie Alomar was left off for on and off field issues (his marriage issues). Admitted sex addict Wade Boggs was a first ballot HOF though. Mays was left off of ballots citing that he used Greenies, ignoring that the Yankees injected amphetamines into Mantle. The only white player where I remember the voters throwing out the “Character clause” is Schilling. I disagree with his snub too. 1. But all of those players did make the HOF, so they weren't snubbed. A few *******s voting a certain way doesn't make it systemic. 2. A lot of those events are from many years ago. 3. The most recent example, Raines, could be explained by other events. Him playing the bulk of his career in Montreal. The position he played being disadvantaged by voters. Lofton and Edmonds were both similar but slightly inferior players who were immediately jettisoned from the vote but both have superior WAR to McGriff who is hanging around. So there were other factors at play that make the situation not so clear and not related to race. I guess you could make a case for power numbers being favoured over speed and defense, which would disadvantage a greater proportion of black athletes versus white, but then you'd have to show that's specifically racist as opposed to baseball analysts just beginning to understand how players contribute to winning games. 4. I think you are cherry picking a few examples, exacerbated by your anecdote about hating Chipper Jones. Mussina is obviously a very big snub so far. We have to look at all possible factors why. Are voters punishing him because of the perceived disrespect to World Series winning manager Cito Gaston at the ASG 25 years ago? Is that considered playing the game the wrong way? If Mussina was black would you be using him as an example?
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 They probably rank Brinson ahead of Bo Bichette based on how close he is to the majors.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Lol foolish to even ask for Vlad. Glad they didn't consider that.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Glad we didn't move Vlad Jr. but bummed out we got so close without getting him. That would have been a game changer.

jerb Verified Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Jerry Crasnick Verified account @jcrasnick Lorenzo Cain has agreed on a 5-year, $80M deal with the #Brewers, source says. It’s the biggest free agent contract of the offseason. The deal includes no-trade protection and significant award bonuses. Milwaukee building a super outfield with addition of Yelich and Cain.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Jesus. They now have Cain, Yelich, Santana, Braun, Broxton, and Phillips. Braun or Santana will be traded.
Ray Verified Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 If the Brewers sign a good starter like Darvish, they have themselves a team.

Ray Verified Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Lorenzo Cain got 5 years $80M according to Jerry Crasnick
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 So he got Fowler money. What he was expected to get going into free agency. I am glad the Jays didn't touch him at 5 years. Cain was actually drafted and developed by the Brewers and made his debut for them. So its kind of a nice home coming for him.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I don't even understand the rationale behind this. Vlad Jr is a mega prospect and what the Brewers gave up doesn't even compare to the value of a Vlad Jr yet that was the expectation. Its baffling to me. Sounds like the Marlins decided to be petty. I'm just glad our front office went hard after Yellich and were willing to eat money to make it happen.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I'm really curious to find out what the Jays offered for Yelich. It might be really dissapointing to find out the Jays had a better deal, but got rejected anyway just cause they wouldn't offer Vladito.
jerb Verified Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Bob Nightengale Verified account @BNightengale The Milwaukee #Brewers now are shopping outfielders Domingo Santana and Brett Phillips for a starting pitcher
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Damn, they asked for Vlad, then settled for much less with another team. That sucks. A package centered around Alford for Yelich would have been incredible. The Marlins gon be the Marlins, though.

To be fair the return they got for Yelich isn't little, certainly much better than their other recent deals. They asked for Vlad hoping the Jays would be foolish or desperate enough to accept, but I'm sure they valued this deal highly.

Yes, FG put FV grades of 60, 55 and 50 on Brinson, Harrison and Diaz (40 on Yamamoto). The top 3 are arguably top 100 prospects. I'm just not a personal fan of them but the Marlins have stocked the pond...a bit but they don't even have anyone looking like they are a big fish moving up. It's like they will have a team of average regulars for the next 5 years. Then again they weren't winning with the best OF in baseball

I don’t think it’s really hard to understand: they like the Milwaukee guys enough that the only package Toronto could offer that would beat it would be Vlad

That might have had more to do with it than anything else.
