AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 They wanted Bo and Vlad for Ozuna But who knows. If those three are even a conversation starter I'd do it. Heck I'd add Osuna if they want pitching so badly. They can flip Osuna and get even more Osuna Alford And Greene. Wartmoth can't be traded as he was drafted less than a year ago
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Wartmoth can't be traded as he was drafted less than a year ago They'd just do a PTBNL, that wouldn't prevent anything.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 What do you guys think Lance Lynn will end up getting? I suspect Shatkins will focus on filling our needs in the OF, but if they don't, I think Lynn could be a good target. He'll be two years removed from TJ surgery and I think there's a decent chance he returns to his 2012 - 2015 levels (during which he averaged 3.3 WAR per season - or a #2 starter). He'll be 31 this year and would help bridge the gap if we lose Happ and/or Estrada after this year. I also read he made significant improvements with his change up in the 2nd half last year (albeit a SSS as he doesn't throw it much). Perhaps sending time with Marco would help him develop a new weapon that would help as he ages. Given the slow market and coming off a "down" season - is there a chance he ends up with a JA Happ type deal? 3 yr $33M. I kind of expected him to get 3 years $45M when the FA season opened, but it's been so slow, I'm wondering if the price is dropping. Thoughts?

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Speaking on 670 The Score in Chicago, Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago reports that the Chicago Cubs have a three-year offer on the table for free-agent outfielder Lorenzo Cain. It's the first known offer on the table for Cain, who remains one of the better position players on the market. Cain, 31, hit .300 with 15 home runs and 26 stolen bases over 155 games this past season. Should the Cubs land Cain, outfielder Albert Almora would likely be moved back to the bench or used in a potential trade to acquire pitching

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) I'm expecting more like the Chen and Kennedy signings. 5/70 or so. I think I could stomach 4 years $56M; however, that would probably leave us with a glaring need in the OF. How good would Lynn at $14M and Yelich at $7M in 2018 look? (Yelich for Bo + Urena, or Alford, Warmoth + C.Greene). Yelich - RF Donaldson - 3rd Smoak - 1st Morales - DH Martin - C Tulo - SS Travis - 2nd Pillar - CF Teoscar - LF B - Diaz, Solarte, Pearce, Catcher Stro, Sanchez, Happ, Estrada, Lynn (Borucki, Biagini, Deck, etc.) Edit - Holy f***, out lineup still looks awful even if we add an impact bat to fill out the OF... Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Given the price of RP'ing right now, I'd say we focus the $20-$25M we have left to spend on a SPer and an OFer. Let's sign R.A. Dickey ($7 mil), Eduardo Nunez ($11 mil) a backup C ($?) and the rest on the bullpen ($3-5 mil or so). Then extend Donaldson. Call it a wrap.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I was on the Nunez train, but I can't see the need with Solarte and Diaz in the fold. Spend that cash on OF or SP
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Sign Ethier (who can platoon in LF) and either Anderson or Liriano, then use whatever's left for addressing RF by FA or trade (maybe ugh Cargo or Grandy). Not the sexiest team, but probably a capable one if it can stay somewhat healthy.

As a fan I would rather give Borucki an honest shot and if he gets shelled at the MLB level he gets shelled.

I think Dickey might be the only guy in baseball who will make this board knowingly reject a good value signing when they see it. He's too good of a bargain to pass up. I'd watch an entire rotation fo RA Dickey's if it meant we won. Plus you could likely get him on a one year deal. Perfect situation for us where we are just wanting to tread water for 2 years without making any long term commitments.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I couldn't stand watching Dickey pitch and would rather find someone else to fill the last rotation spot, but if he comes cheap and doesn't require a below replacement man servant as his back up catcher, then the Jays can do a lot worse.

Grandy might be a solid vet option though. We need a lefty and he's averaged 2.3 WAR per year over the past 2 seasons. Still runs well and plays decent defense. He also walks a lot, which is a nice change up from our free swingers. I'd have to imagine we could get him on a 1 year deal (maybe with a 2nd year option). Lynn at $13M per + Grandy for $8M.

As long as he'd come here instead of playing a lesser role on a contender. I assume it would be a 1 year deal, dude is almost 37 now. Still projects as a 2ish WAR player with full playing time. Could hit some real bombs here after years of 25-30 with the Mets (in that park).

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I can't see Grandy wanting to finish his career playing on turf. That's a fair point. It's a real nuisance that our park could factor into our abilities to sign FA's. Maybe Grandy is all about the dollar bills yo. I kind of doubt it though. I think I've read he's a great teammate overall. He's probably looking for a ring. Maybe it has to be a guy like Cargo who's simply looking to rebuild value. Meh.
