    Shapiro suggesting he would have started a rebuild last year if he could seems to me like the decision to "compete" came from above him. If a front office doesn't want to do whats best for the franchise long-term and wants to tread water because of attendance, they're incredibly incompetent. Shapiro watched over the cleveland rebuild, i highly doubt he's the one that made the decision to continue to "compete"

    Maybe a full scorch rebuild isn't necessary but trading donaldson if you think there's a good chance you won't keep him is absolutely necessary while he's healthy and his value is high (and there's a market right now, who knows what the market will look like at the deadline)

    Wouldn't you have to move quickly on a sale if you want to sell high though? Like before the season starts(Something that seems highly unrealistic)? If the jays hypothetically start off bad in april and attendance/ratings dip by may/june the value of the franchise decreases regardless. IMO rogers would be able to maximize value with with the stadium renovations + spring training renovations + a good young team

    If only someone could convince rogers that the long term gain outweighs the short term gain. A young core that could be good for 5 years straight + stabilize your ratings + attendance + increase the franchise value > having to sell false hope every year with a good chance of being bad/mediocre anyway. Attendance will dip by may if you suck regardless (with or without donaldson)

    The only thing the jays are "going for" next year is trying not to finish last in the division

    Rogers getting credit for being willing to be in the top 10 is laughable, we aren't a small market that isn't able to support the funds. Almost every large market team right now is willing to be in the top 10. Hooray
