He can eat steady innings. Nothing spectacular but he keeps the ball on the ground and would likely be a solid #5. Also provides a veteran mentor to the pitching staff, maybe he can teach Stro to dial back on the douchiness.

Please let us know the last time you saw him pitch... The last time I saw him pitch he looked alright. It was a game against Cleveland in the playoffs, and if I recall right he was cruising along looking good, but maybe Joe left him in too long, and he got beat up in the 6th or 7th.

 

I have the YES Network (Yankees Entertainment and Sports) in my cable package, I also am only a couple of hours away from Yankee Stadium. So I've seen CC on TV and live several times. I am not a trained scout. Here are my observations.

 

1. He is very fat, but pitches OK.

 

That's just my scouting observation. I also read about him in the tabloids (for sale in gas stations and other stores around here), they sometimes have him on the cover. Apparently he went to rehab at the end of 2015, which could explain subpar 14 (knee injury might explain that too) and 15 (drunk as a skunk).

 

But in 16 and 17, presumably sober, he was actually decent.

 

I believe the Jays would want him to solidify their rotation and based on real and stats scouting think he will be a decent 4th or 5th.

Damn I wish Buehrle was a lot younger when we acquired him and we kept him for a while. I miss that guy.

Stro needs guidance on being a pro and an adult. Is Buehrle interested in coaching?

We don't know if he's even willing to ship out to the West coast at this point in his career. We don't know what his driving motivators are.

 

Surely his first choice would be to remain a Yankee, but if they acquire another SP and don't have room to offer a surefire rotation spot, that could perhaps steer CC elsewhere.

I don’t think a buehrle would be able to get to stroman at this point. You need someone that Stro can relate too as a young successful African American who views culture the same way as him. Stro has that Melo state of mind, in which building his brand is just as important then his on field success. And even tho that can be viewed at as smart long term, most these players lose track of what their bread and butter is and their decline comes quicker and harder then it should. It was different when Stro was a rookie, but Stroman appears to feel privileged and cocky now. That’s why Price was such a huge influence on him in a good way. Price has that swag and loves to have fun but is very down to earth and respectable. I member reading a article on Archer and it went on about how he learned so much from Price and his legacy off the field that he still tries to follow years after Price left TB. It went on about has archer does big brother events even on the road and he creates Prices off field influences on it.

Archer is very similar to Stroman on Twitter. I would like to take a bet that most of his teammates haven't had much influence on Stroman off the field as they don't see it as a problem, because he's being himself. And Marcus grew up in a 90% white, small town and went to Duke. He likely views culture much differently than CC who grew up in the most culturally diverse neighbourhood in the US.

Aitn't no one signing C.C. to be a leader. His appeal is that he could be serviceable but doesn't require a long term contract. He's the kind of guy you sign when you're trying plan for the long term without entirely killing your wild card chances.
