Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 They should've made this like the Bachelor and actually made Otahni hand out roses to the GM of the teams of made the final cut. lol... best f***ing post easy!!!

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 I'd like to see him go to the Angels. Trout deserves some help and Ohtani will help put Trout in the spotlight he deserves. If not - SF. Stanton and Ohtani would be a sick off-season for the Giants!

Why do the Angels deserve getting Otani after signing deals like the Hamilton and Pujols ones...
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Rangers and Cubs are in. So who is all left... Rangers, Cubs, Dodgers, Padres, Mariners, Giants....who else?
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 So who is all left... Rangers, Cubs, Dodgers, Padres....who else? The Mariners are the only other confirmed team, but it's also "believed" (but not yet confirmed) that the Angels and Dodgers have advanced to the next round as well. Haven't heard from Baltimore, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Colorado, Detroit, Houston, KC, and Philly.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Angels, Mariners, Dodgers, Giants. Giants and Mariners are front runners. If Giants land Stanton... yikes

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Angels are a confirmed finalist for Ohtani's talents.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Angels are a confirmed finalist for Ohtani's talents. Maybe he'll surprise everyone and take his talents to Souf Beach.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Interesting that every finalist team has their Spring Training Facilities in Arizona, not Florida. So maybe it isn't just about where the MLB team is located..
Ray Verified Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 The Nippon Ham fighters apprently had a working agreement to share the Spring Training facility in Peoria, AZ with the Padres during the offseason. Ohtani apparently trained there before. May give them the edge.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Cool, so we literally will never have to hear about this guy ever again in Toronto? Like... Afterthought if we have a 3 game series in Seattle?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 If he doesn't sign in Toronto I'm rooting for the Angels. That rotation has needed a legit ace since prime Colon, and Trout needs help. So did you forget that Dan Haren existed? Greinke was also an Angel for a bit.

flafson Verified Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 I love it how people make up stories about how high our chances are because of some Japanese roots somehow, like Kawasaki having a small talk with him before and then they drop to reality and the guy didn't even consider us.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 Decent story containing most of what is known at this point: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/262796620/shohei-ohtani-updates-on-where-he-will-sign/?partnerId=ed-12112201-1035608053
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 "We felt confident about our presentation," Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins said. "We were given feedback by Shohei Ohtani's representation that we controlled everything within our power." Based on Cashman's comments Sunday, it seems as though the West Coast teams in smaller markets may have the advantage, making Seattle and San Diego serious contenders for his services. "I started getting a feel that wasn't good a few days ago," Cashman said. "I know that our presentation was excellent. The feedback from that was outstanding. I did get a sense that I can't change that we're a big market and I can't change that we're in the East. That was something that, presentation or not, might be difficult to overcome."
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 I want to see him on the Angels

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 I've watched enough anime to know that this is where the protagonist (Your TBJ's) have to make an impassioned speech their belief that Otani needs to sign with us and that they don't care that they have been eliminated. Their power of will can somehow overcome the situation! 60% of the time, it works every time
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 The cubs are not a small market or on the west coast.... WHAT THE f***
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 The cubs are not a small market or on the west coast.... WHAT THE f*** They may have presented a very appealing (and perhaps creative) response as to how they would use him.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 The cubs are not a small market or on the west coast.... WHAT THE f*** He's allowed to sign wherever he wants. He can change his mind and sign with the Yankees or red sox if he wants. Getting mad because a media report isn't 100% accurate (when every other team is west coast) is a waste of energy.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 "Balelo's memo asks for a team to evaluate Ohtani's talent as a pitcher and as a hitter; to explain its player development, medical training and player performance philosophies and facilities; to describe its minor league and spring training facilities; to detail resources for Ohtani's cultural assimilation into the team's city; to demonstrate a vision for how Ohtani could integrate into the team's organization; and to tell Ohtani why the team is a desirable place to play." 8 days later, he narrows his teams down to 7. Only 2 of those 7 have any recent track record of good player development (LAD, Cubs), and only 2 of those 7 are not in the west coast. In other words, what the hell was the point of sending the memo? I mean, Ohtani could have told each team to get on their knees and bark like a dog, and they would have done it, so maybe he got off on so many teams courting him, but that seemed like a giant waste of time and resources if he knew he preferred the west coast and didn't particularly care about whether the team was good, had a history of good player development, etc.

None of the bolded bits have anything to do with player development or being on the West Coast. In any case, it's hardly "a giant waste of time and resources" when every single team will already have scouting reports on Ohtani, and details on their own team that they use to woo any other free agent.
