Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 He is hitting .185 this year, sure he has 12 walks but he has not been clutch. We pay him 85 million for 5 years to frame and play good defence? No he needs to hit. If batting average is all you have to work with, you're a mile over your head in this discussion. The numbers that matter (as pointed out above) suggest Martin is doing his job.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Holy f*** the Cardinals are making a ton of fundamental mistakes. It's getting embarrassing for them

And yes, we mostly did pay him a lot of money to be an elite defensive catcher with average offense. He's earned every penny of his contract up to this point, and much more.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 On one hand, that was a really tough ball to read off the bat and play as it's coming right over your head, but Fowler nearly misplayed that as well.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Travis can't buy a hit. Fowler was dancing out there all the way to the warning track and catches it

I believe in clutch, it is a thing. If you have 1st and 3rd and 1 out he should be able to get that run in, that's clutch. Also lets not forget he was advertised as a good hitting catcher not just an average catcher with good defence.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Damn Pearce really cannot buy a hit right now. Awful luck for him.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Pearce gets robbed as well lol...at least him and Travis are making better contact

There's 10 more things to be worried about right now than Martin's .917 OPS his last 8 games.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Cards announcers may be right, Coghlan might not have made that out.

Okay sure, I guess that's your opinion even though it's been shown that there's basically no correlation for "clutch" in consecutive years, it's completely random. But alright, let's leave it there. Since the Blue Jays have signed him, he's been the 4th most valuable catcher in baseball (framing not included), as well as the 8th best hitter among catchers, with a 106 wRC+, which is above average for the league, let alone catchers who are always far below average hitters as a whole.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Truth sucks sometimes, yea I know. Glad to hear you understand that, because the truth is that you're completely wrong when it comes to Martin and no one agrees with a word you're saying.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Cardinals broadcast called that run. Said there was no reason at all for Smith to face Carpenter...was like putting a ball on a tee for him
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Truth sucks sometimes, yea I know. If the truth is that Martin continues to be an exceptional catcher and crucial to the Toronto Blue Jays' roster then I'd love some more of them truths you got going there.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Cardinals broadcast called that run. Said there was no reason at all for Smith to face Carpenter...was like putting a ball on a tee for him Tell them to shut the f*** up. They're getting swept.

Said there was no reason at all for Smith to face Carpenter...was like putting a ball on a tee for him Meh, I'd prefer the superior Smith over JP Howell, even if the latter is a lefty specialist. Carpenter is good against anyone.
Yippy Verified Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Broadcaster questioning why lefty isn't in now
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Despite the run Joe Smith continues to be nails.
Yippy Verified Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Ump has missed at least three strike calls
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Broadcaster questioning why lefty isn't in now haha yeah it went on for awhile like we were supposed to be so deeply concerned about Matt Adams
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Tell them to shut the f*** up. They're getting swept. Well would you lack at that. About to win 2 games in a row for the first time all year and we've got some board swagger back.
