Spats will have a live report from the game later.

"Pentecost did not catch tonight ( DH). I wonder if he still needs more work or he may be alternating with Jansen who is on fire.Tale of 2 Boruckis tonight. First 4 innings he was lights out, striking out a ton with an incredible slider and a 92-94 mph fastball topping out at 96. Had an error behind him in the 5th and it seemed to unnerve him..got hit hard in the 5th and 6th.

I'm really starting to like Juan Kelly..he really battles at the plate fouling off a number of pitches his second at bat before lining a double into the gap.

Btw, Pentecost should have had better results at the plate..hit a bullet to right fielder and next at bat put one on the roof behind the bullpen just foul opposite field. Would have been one of the longest homeruns I've seen at Florida Exchange."

This game was on TV. Some random thoughts I had from the game...

Palacios: Hit leadoff and got on base 4 times in his first game of the year. 2 first pitch singles off Antonio Santillan who is a decent prospect and throws hard. Took a HBP later in the game in an 0-2 count.

Woodman: Hit 2 singles but still has big swing and miss in his game.

Bichette: Really aggressive at the plate. Swings hard and swings often. Had a hard hit ball to CF, single to RF and advanced to first on a strikeout that was a wild pitch. Took a walk in an AB vs Ryan Hendrix in an 8-9 pitch AB. Made a fielding error at short where he bobbled the ball on the transfer.

Vlad Jr: Thought he had a better day than his line showed. Worked the count deep after falling behind early but struckout in two 3-2 counts one where he swung threw a Santillan fastball another where he was called out on a fastball low and away. As I type this he hits a line drive single up the middle to give Lansing the lead.

Bradley Jones: Think this guy is a bit of a sleeper. He can hit. Hit two 3 run dingers in this game..

Edward Olivares: Made a couple of mental errors in RF. Bobbled a groundball and lazily threw it into 2B which allowed runner on 3rd to score. Same inning threw home with runners on 1st and 3rd which allowed runner to advance to 2nd. Had a good day at the plate with a few singles and a 9th inning HR off a center cut fastball to RF, and a couple of stolen bases.

Yeltsin Gudino: Needs to get stronger but his ability to put the ball in play is a plus. Could be a guy once he starts hitting the ball harder.

Andy Ravel: Got hit around for 6 earned runs and didnt make it out of the first inning. Battled command and his defense didn't help him out.

Griffin Glaude: Came out of the bullpen in place of Ravel and struckout 6.

Kirby Snead: Funky LHP with a weird low arm slot delivery but couldn't throw strikes. Walked 4 in his outing.

I'll try to get some highlights when the game is archived. Maybe later tonight or tomorrow.

The returns from the Liriano trade are off to an awfully rough start. Hopefully they can get it together since we desperately need depth at both positions.

With the exception of. .. Liriano who's worked out nicely. That trade might keep on giving if Liriano has a good year. Flip him again for even more young guys and it's even more of a steal.

The trade is most certainly a steal either way, but it sure would be nice to have some depth at LF and C. I am still hoping that McGuire earn some time as our ML backup later this season.

Its just a weird post considering that Drew Hutchison is currently sitting in AAA with a 7.84 ERA.

Bichette is looking really solid in limited action. The Lugnuts are an exciting team to watch. If the Jays don't start turning it around I'm going to start watching their games.

And for what it's worth. Bichette's dad's 1999 season might be my favorite season of all-time. Had an OPS of .895 yet finished with -2.1 WAR.

Highlights coming your way...

I already watched them on the twitter feed! Thanks for doing this. Man Vlad Jr. swings hard. Bichette had a wild swing. Seems to lose his balance quite a bit.

Awesome job with the clips. They came out at what looks like 150% speed, not sure if intentional or not to reduce size.

How often are Lansing games on the milb.tv?

It's normal speed, I think. I played it back on PC and it seemed in normal time (on my phone it seemed faster). Maybe it just comes off as faster since it skips all the in between pitch stuff. Streamable is also weird with buffering where it can slow down the playback or speed it up depending on what device you are using.

They are on MiLB.TV anytime they are in Dayton, Great Lakes, Kane County, West Michigan, Quad Cities or Cedar Rapids. Looking at the schedule I'd estimate 8-12 games per month.

Couple wall scrapers, lol

He can actually hit though. 3 home runs in his past 2 games. Last year after it looks like coming back from injury (August 8) he hit .392/435/814 through the end of the season. And he posted pretty big numbers in college. Maybe a guy to watch for.

True

And Hutch isn't even pitching in the majors

Edit: And so far posting a 7.84 ERA in 2 starts in AAA Indianapolis. :(

Vlad looks like he has great plate discipline. Looks like quite a few the ump called strikes were off the plate, or maybe it's just the angle.

Realy looks like he has a good idea of what he wants to hit and recognizes breaking balls well. Some of the curves in that clip were pretty good and he didn't even give them a sniff

Wow, -40 defensive runs. Wtf? Was he literally unable to move while fielding his position?

Height of the steroid era while playing in Coors Field suppressed his .379 wOBA in to only a 100 wRC+. He was never a good OF but that year he had 13 errors on top of his poor range in a very spacious OF. That made him 2nd in OF errors, somehow Vlad Guerrero had 19! lol Bichette was 2nd in baseball with OF assists though that year. He had 17 (Kotsay had 19). My guess is everyone tried running on him? Or did he actually have a good arm.

Love the way Vlad Jr and Bichette look at the plate. It was really interesting to see that Bichette doesn't have the leg kick on 2 strike counts (if I saw that right). Both have extremely advanced approaches at the plate imo
