Do you think this season is indicative of the kind of player he really is? I think he's closer to what he did last season.

 

He's still a cockhat, either way though.

 

The home runs paint him as a better player than he is. Bad defender and undisciplined, bad hitter with good power. He really only has one tool.

 

But he's one massive tool himself so not sure how that works.

I do realize that and I said he has skills. So, at what point does BA actually count. Would you be satisfied at 200, 150? Maile hasn't hit yet and is not bad defensively but he lost his spot because he can't hit. Just not sure where the line is.

 

You do realize that batting average is probably the poorest representation of the skills of any hitter right? Not to mention the far more important defensive value Martin brings.

Sources say that at some points in the past the Jays have tried for Rougned Odor, though it’s possible those efforts came before the famous punch-out incident of Blue Jays icon Jose Bautista. Anyway, the Jays are in the market for a second baseman now, so it would be interesting to see if they’d try to revisit that at some point. It isn’t certain when all the inquiries were made, and Odor isn’t the most popular fellow in Toronto now. But as one Jays connected person pointed out, “Bautista’s probably a short timer there.” One interesting connection: Jays president Mark Shapiro employed Rougned’s uncle Rouglas Odor with the Indians for two decades so there is a connection there (Rouglas was a player for seven years in the Indians system, then a coach/manager for another 14). So there’s a link there. And while Rougned is beloved by Rangers people, one might wonder how he’d do in a Jays clubhouse that included Bautista (and still does).

The fact that Martin's OBP is still very good makes him still an above average offensive player. Not really that hard to understand.

Estrada, 34, has struggled in 2017, with a 5.33 ERA in 19 games started for the Blue Jays, after two very successful years at the front of the rotation in Toronto. What has plagued him this season has been a mystery, and numerous attempts to correct various mechanical issues have failed thus far.

 

After Cotillo’s report, I asked a Blue Jays source to confirm, and although he was not able to confirm the Royals’ interest in Estrada, he was able to say that if the Blue Jays were to trade Estrada this trade deadline, the return would likely be made of players in Advanced-A ball or Double-A.

 

Additionally, the source pointed out that if the Blue Jays were to trade with the Royals, some players they could be interested in are OF Donnie Dewees, 1B Samir Duenez, RHP Glenn Sparkman (yes, him), or RHP Andres Machado. Dewees, Duenez, and Sparkman are all currently with the AA Northwest Arkansas Naturals, while Machado is with the Wilmington Blue Rocks in Advanced-A. Dewees was ranked Kansas City’s 11th top prospect according to MLB Pipeline, while Duenez came in at 17th on their list.

 

Estrada for Sparkman would be pretty damn funny in a sad way.

Pretty underwhelming names there... Estrada, even with his struggles is probably worth someone in the top 150ish or better with some added filler.

 

Oh, and the Royals farm sucks a giant bag of dicks.

You aren't getting a top 150 prospect for Estrada with how bad he's been lately. If it was the opposite where his struggles were at the beginning and the last month was his April then I think a top 150 prospect would certainly be attainable

I don't think recency bias would really crater that much of his value though. Of course it's a factor but to say that Estrada is worth nothing more than like a few top 400 guys, as suggested in that article, is kind of silly to me.

I have trouble seeing this FO pursuing a piece of crap like Odor and his contract in a losing season, with Travis on the mend and Gurriel off to a good start in AA.

People have shown some pretty good restraint for what has been a pretty weak argument from you. You should be pleased that you're not getting roasted.

 

 

Martin may be the only irreplaceable guy on this team.

I'd probably go with Chappelle narrowly ahead of Louis, but I definitely agree that he's up there. Being funny seems so ridiculously natural for him.

Key word there is "seems". As much as he plays off his lazy slob image, he's probably the hardest working man in comedy. Have you ever watched his stuff from the 80s? He's come a LONG way.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Blue Jays "have gotten some feelers" on Jose Bautista.

 

Advice: There are some hurdles to a potential trade, though, the first of which is that Bautista is hitting a disappointing .227/.340/.402 with 16 home runs this season and just .197/.312/.338 since June 1. He also has 10-and-5 rights and thus can veto any deal. However, while the Jays no doubt would have to pick up a chunk of what remains of his $18 million salary for this season to make a trade work, some contender might think it's worth taking a shot that Bautista can slug for a couple months for them. It shouldn't cost too much to acquire him.
