L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 I think you'd find very few people share that view. Both are very good prospects though. I would not do Meadows for Vlad Jr. straight up.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Everyone (including Vladdy and Bo) should be available for the right offer. Technically you're right. But I really don't see a scenario playing out where one team says 'I'll give you our super awesome prospect for your super awesome prospect." That rarely happens and I don't see it happening here.

Agreed, I was just responding to someone who mentioned an untouchable. No one is untouchable.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 He does in reality, but teams don't pay big in trade for defense only players, regardless of how many wins they actually add with it. A 4 WAR all bat no d player would net far more in trade than a 4 WAR defender with no bat. Rightly or wrongly, that's the mlb we live in Don't look now, but Pillar's D and BsR have declined significantly. At this rate, he'll be a 4th OFer again pretty soon (sad but true)
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Apparently the Cardinals are interested in Josh Donaldson. Deal would have to start with Carson Kelly, Luke Weaver, and one other premium prospect. It's not an exciting farm system especially with Alex Reyes hurt but I'm sure if he's moved the Jays would prefer the NL.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Reyes, Flaherty, and Kelly a reasonable haul for Donaldson, perhaps?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Reyes, Flaherty, and Kelly a reasonable haul for Donaldson, perhaps? I'll pass. Reyes is hurt and Flaherty might turn out to be a number 3 but he's a pitcher so who knows.
Traded_prospect Verified Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 The rebuild can be fun. I'd rather watch a young team develop than an old team struggle. What we have: - The terror tandem of Bichette-Vald as future core - future financial flexibility. The only long-term bad contract's Tulo's. So when the young core arrive in big league in 2-3 years, we'll tons of money to buy/acquire the missing pieces. What we lack: - elite prospects above A ball except Alford - elite pitching propects I am totally on board with this plan! Now, all we need is Atkins and Shapiro to execute. Reminds me of the 1980's with the Jays. Only this time they have MLB talent to trade for "assets" and a LOT more budget to work with.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 (edited) Not quite sure I would put him in elite prospect status without even average command. Pretty much every elite pitching prospect in the minors struggles with command. It's the difference between boom and bust for these guys. Edited July 5, 2017 by Jimcanuck

At this rate, he'll be a 4th OFer again pretty soon (sad but true) I'd like to know what the new metrics say about it. Fangraphs, etc don't use them to my knowledge, and the flaws in their approach should be well known by now. BsR has the same flaws. Certainly we should expect some decline in the legs though, and he doesn't have the bat to make up for it.

Numbers are down though yo.

Its great that Alford looks like he's ready to contribute because the Pillar era is likely coming to an abrupt end

My take anyway

My take anyway He drove his face into the scoreboard while we were down a couple touchdowns against the O's, he doesn't take plays off, bro.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Score was 15-1 at the time too, lol. Um, it was 2-0 in the 7th inning lol. The 15-1 score was against the Red Sox.

Thanks, he did make a crazy catch in that Boston game though, cause I thought straight away, "easy KP it's a blowout".
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Yeah I feel like Pillar is still giving it his all out there, he's just not quite as quick as he used to be. He was never the fastest and instead relied on good instincts and top notch effort. Any decline in the already average speed is going to be a disaster for him, and I think we are starting to see it happen.
Cbert Verified Member Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 As we start into this potential rebuild, what kind of guys should the Jays target in free agency? I'd like to see them supplement their young core with some big names like Otani (if he's ever posted) and Harper. I know it's unlikely, but I'd like to see the Jays make a run at some big names if the rest of the squad is young, cheap and controllable.
