  1. Can anyone explain to me how any one of Guillermo Martinez, Hunter Mense, and Matt Hague, the three batting coaches are still employed by this team? Guillermo has been the hitting coach since 2018 and during that time it would be very hard to show that anyone has improved. Usually teams throw out the batting coach once a team goes into a hitting funk. Not this team. Bizzare.
  2. Different subject: Is Addison Barger a real prospect? Hitting .410 at AA with some power. Not bad for a 6th-round pick.
  3. I expect the team will hold tight on adding an infielder expecting that two of Espinal, Biggio, Smith, and Moreno will produce at or above replacement level but will look to add a good lefthanded outfielder/DH. Their production out of DH was pretty poor last year and another year of Grichuk playing every day will make me very sad. The team should still have the budget to add later if need be, like Atlanta did.
  4. Strength of Schedule: (sorry about the display... I haven't figured out how to get tables to display properly in this editor) Rank Team Rating Hi Low Last 1 Washington (13-18) 0.33. 1. 18. 1 2. 5. I have to give the Jays and Montoya credit. They have played way more away games (22) than home games (11). Only Pittsburgh (12 v 21); Arizona (11 v 23) and the LA Dodgers (13 v 22) have played similarly unbalanced schedules. So, if you do get home-field advantage, the Jays are due for a nice uptick in wins once they start playing more home games.
  6. Some outside the box thinking here, why not trade Jansen?
  7. Just out of curiosity, why do the Jays not pitch Devers inside (might knock him down with no intent to injure)?
  8. The other "peripheral" is that his mother has been dealing with cancer (melanoma) this year. Apparently she was given the all clear about 3 weeks ago and since then he has been playing better.
  9. I am totally on board with this plan! Now, all we need is Atkins and Shapiro to execute. Reminds me of the 1980's with the Jays. Only this time they have MLB talent to trade for "assets" and a LOT more budget to work with.
  10. I hadn't heard he had injured the leg (again). Thanks.
  11. Anyone hear anything on Dalton Pompey? He had a few MiLB starts including one last Sunday in Buffalo (pulled in the 4th inning). His 60 day DL has finished so he is eligible to be reinstated. Hopefully he can fully recover from all his injuries and replace Chris Coghlan who is a butcher in the field (sorry Chris).
  12. Hey, a Glenn Sparkman sighting in Dunedin. 3 Innings of 3 hit ball. I guess that means he will be on the big league roster soon to get his required time for the Rule V requirements.
  13. I would move Morales to the DL, DFA Cecilliani and promote Smith Jr (adding him to the 40 man roster). I would also seriously consider promoting Leblebijian and have him to play everyday at 3rd base; His promotion would be less clear in terms of who comes off the roster and the 40 man. Having just noticed that he is leading the International League in RBIs, I would promote Leblebijian too; I would remove Harold Ramirez from the 40 man (he has been useless as pointed out above).
  14. Totally agree; Baltimore has played 44 home games and only 33 on the road (and only 35 vs the East) Boston has played 41 home games and 37 on the road (35 vs the East) Toronto has played 36 home games and 44 on the road (42 vs the East) Based on home vs road alone, Toronto should move up the standings versus Baltimore. But that is why they play the games.
  15. Hate the trade; This is the Jose Reyes trade part II. Trade for an very good but aging short stop on a long contract in exchange for one fantastic prospect (Hoffman) and two pretty good ones. Oh, I forgot, take on >$50m in salary. Yes the defense will be better and so will the hitting, but at what long-term cost! A team that needs 4 or 5 starters trades one of its best pitching prospects for more hitting. Unbelievable. I absolutely love what AA has done with the farm system, but just about every single one of his Major League trades has worked out horribly. This is yet another one; all for a piece you could find another solution to.
