RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 Zeke's won the job Now we shall witness the start of the Easy Carrera Era
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 They might still keep Upton. This could just be a feeler. And this FO is actually really good at explaining things, IMO. They are very forthcoming, especially compared to AA's gibberish PR philosophy. Olney said Upton won't be on the team opening day. Would look pretty bad on their part if they kept him after all that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Olney said Upton won't be on the team opening day. Would look pretty bad on their part if they kept him after all that. Who gives half a f*** about Buster Olney?

However we have seen more good so far. Can't have everything I suppose. Perhaps Upton has a s***** attitude and they don't want him around.
Gary Verified Member Posted April 2, 2017 Author Posted April 2, 2017 My sources tell me Upton is toxic in the clubhouse.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I doubt Upton would be moved unless we get another RH bat to replace him. Coghlan/Goins and Zeke would be disastrous against LHP and they don't seem ready to use Pompey in a platoon. Hopefully Smoak has a good start and makes this a moot point.
Governator Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 But the other player being cut would be Goins who, as history has shown, can be DFA'd without being claimed as he's done a few times before. So there's no risk on dropping someone that can be picked Goins has been DFA'd a few times? Pretty sure he just ran out of options last fall, no?
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Meh who cares Zeke, Upton and Goins are all on the same level of suck.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Goins has been DFA'd a few times? Pretty sure he just ran out of options last fall, no? Yes, well, to your latter question.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Goins has been DFA'd a few times? Pretty sure he just ran out of options last fall, no? I could have sworn we DFA'd him twice last year? But a quick google-Fu proves you are indeed right, not sure where I got that idea from sorry!
keggy Verified Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 From Heyman: Orioles "not a fit" for melvin Upton I hear. Upton can play OF defence so he's not a great fit for the O's.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 From Heyman: Orioles "not a fit" for melvin Upton I hear. Upton isn't a working-class player
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 My sources tell me Upton is toxic in the clubhouse. Here we go again. Gary, the voices in your head are not sources. If they were, they would tell you to get medication.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Meh who cares Zeke, Upton and Goins are all on the same level of suck. One is fast and can hammer a curveball.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Whoever gets put on waivers probably gets claimed. Goins' defence and positional flexibility is useful for a reserve infielder and late game defensive replacement (especially in the NL). Upton is only paid $1million, is an OK 4th outfielder and could feasibly play well enough to have trade value at the deadline. Both are very cheap, virtually risk free claims for any team looking to add to their bench.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 My sources tell me Upton is toxic in the clubhouse. the puppet in your left hand wearing an orioles jersey with weams on the back telling the puppet in your right hand with a blue jays jersey with dog on the back are not sources.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Upton released. Don't understand this at all...
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Upton released. Don't understand this at all... Lol unbelievable. There has to be a reason behind this. Not even tried to send him down through waivers to see if a team bites, just released. Means we're on the hook for a million too right? Must have caused clubhouse issues or something.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Upton released. Don't understand this at all... Its easy, he sux at baseball.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Its easy, he sux at baseball. He was the best option for LF against LHP.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Goins made it. This is mind boggling. I don't remember us being this attached to Joe Inglett or Mike McCoy. Talk about a glorified glove, Upton probably showed no interest or intensity in training leading to him being cut. I refuse to believe we cut him for going just because we preferred Goins.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Turns out Goins is an MLB player after all!
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Ugh, Goins is like a parasite. The team just won't let go of him.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Turns out Goins is an MLB player after all! Does this officially answer the question "Can Ryan Goins stick?"?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 He was barely an average defender last year. Like you can't even say his defense is elite anymore.. Barney is better
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I fully expected Upton to make it over Goins, but I suppose the front office is worried that both Tulo and Travis are injury risks and wanted the extra infield cover. Barney and Goins could both play a bit of LF I guess too.
