Hello all, first time poster and total baseball rookie here :)

I'm coming to Toronto at the end of June and want to take in my first baseball game but can't decide which tickets to get.

My choices are either July 1st or July 3rd. The latter has more tickets available, particularly high up directly behind the plate, but I wonder whether the atmosphere/festivities would be more enjoyable on the 1st, for which the closest seats to the centre are in 532/533 off to the left facing 3rd base.

I'm quite happy to go for the $30 and below tickets, but does anyone have any thoughts on my above point?

Thanks in advance for your comments :)

I personally feel any of the 500s seats between 3rd and 1st are fine, as long as you aren’t more than like 8ish rows back. Gives you a good view of the entire field though it may be hard to judge some flyballs.

532 is borderline starting to get too far for me. They should be ok though

You could be baking in the sun if its a hot day and the dome is open, those 500s offer like no cover. I believe the 3rd base side is better for sun cover.

Canada day game is always a hoot, so could be fun there although traffic will suck and it’ll be super busy.

Thanks for your reply! Most of the seats remaining are in the back few rows, so maybe it wouldn't be that great :/

I like the idea of going on Canada Day but would have to sacrifice the location. I guess that's my quandry to work out :D

You can also try the WestJet Flight Deck if you're willing to stand all game and to stay in the shade. That whole concourse is open to everyone I believe.

Stangstag made a good point. If the roof is open, you could be baking that day especially in the 500s. While the Canada Day game will be a loud atmosphere, the Dome will be crazy busy. Consider the lineups for concessions and washrooms. As well, during busy games I find more crazier fans who get drunk always sit up in the 500s.

Otherwise, my favourite seating area now at Jays games are Club 200 around third base. Smaller sections, comfy seats, better views over the net, in the shade and 200 Level Concourse isn't as crazy as the 100 level or 500 level concourse when games are close to being sold out.

Get seats from the dude above... 3rd base side between home and 3rd 200 level, you won't regret it. Bar on the level, never long lineups in concession lines, bathroom etc, well worth the bang for your buck, plus it's Canada day and your first game, go hard in the paint, mate.

Great seats, I agree

Since it's a premium ticket day you're looking at 150-160 for the pair. It's worth it man.

If you're in town enjoying one Blue Jays game, get better seats and you won't regret. You can't go wrong with the 200 level. Best section in the ballpark IMO. Like Jay said, less lines at concessions, excellent views and great value. You won't regret it.

500 level, you'll be packed in like sardines and the view isn't that great at the Rogers Centre. You're too high up IMO. Not worth it and you won't enjoy it.

Thanks buddy!

To add to it, 200 level also has wider seats with cup holders. Best seats in the house

Having decided to avoid July 1st and the crowds it'll bring, does anyone have thoughts about which other day would be better (July 2nd day/evening or July 3rd)? Would there be any real difference between them in terms of the experience?

Thanks again in advance for your ongoing comments :)

July 2nd is a doubleheader, so i’d say avoid that and do July 3rd. You’ll get a more standard game day experience

The primary difference is that July 1st you get a Springer jersey, July 2nd day game you get a Vlad Jr/Vlad Sr duo bobblehead, and July 2nd night game/July 3rd you get nothing.

In terms of the game-day experience, it's all generally the same except there are more people getting drunk and slightly rowdy in night games.

But the thing that has the biggest effect on the general experience is whether the team is winning or losing, lol. Crowd will be more engaged in a close game/more happy in a blowout. Crowd will be dead if the offense is dead or getting blown out.

Probably gonna have to line up for like 2+ hours before game time if you want those though. Gonna be busy as f*** both days

Not worth it IMO if you are trying to visit the park/city and get a good game experience.

You don't need to go that early for the jersey I don't think. Definitely do for the bobblehead. But either way, you don't really have to "line up." As long as you get there around the time that gates open, there's no way you'll miss out on a giveaway.

The lines move so fast that I haven't had to "wait in line" at any point this year except Opening Day, which was only about a 5-10 minute wait before we were in. And once you're in the stadium there's lots to do. You can grab food early, you can take a look at the Authentics shop, you can watch batting practice, visit the flight deck, etc.

Springer jersey day the gates should open at 1:30 PM (1.5 hours before the 3 PM start time). Vlad and Dad bobblehead day is a weekend so the gates should open 10 AM (2 hours before 12 PM start time).

If you're there for the time the gates open, the line floods in and there's no real wait, especially if you go to one of the less busy gates. Both games are still early enough in the day too that you have plenty of time after the game to experience the city and plenty of daylight to visit parks.

Thanks again for all the help everyone!

In the end I went for directly behind the plate for the game on the 3rd. In terms of price and match day experience it seemed like the best option. Maybe the seats aren't the best but for the budget I had they seemed good enough :) hopefully I'll enjoy my first baseball experience and that it won't be the last!

Thanks for this TL. I was just coming in to ask you guys as I'm taking my son and a few of his friends to the July 1st game for his 12th birthday. Of course he wants to get a Springer jersey and I was curious how early I'd have to go to get one. We're in Section 209, so Gate 4. I think someone said the 200 level is better on giveaway days as it isn't as busy as the 100 level gates?

He'd also like to go watch batting practice. If the gates only open at 1:30 (I can't seem to find that information on my ticket btw), I guess our plan should be to funnel in then and we should catch some of the batting practice? Could someone confirm?

Should be a great day...hope Berrios figures his s*** out though.

I'm gonna revise what I said above because things were different when we went to the short-sleeve sweater game against the Yankees.

That was a Friday game, vs. the Yankees, with a giveaway, on Father's Day weekend, so it was a massive sell-out crowd. My wife really wanted the sweaters so we went two hours early. We parked comfortably (lots of parking at that time) and then lined up at Gate 11. By the time we lined up I'm guessing it was around 1:50 before game time and we were like 30-40 people deep in the line. Once the gates opened though (20 minute wait), line moved as fast as it always does and we were in within 5-10 minutes.

I'm guessing because it's summer, people are more willing to lineup ahead of time, especially on sell-out crowd days, which the Canada Day game definitely will be. So yeah, I definitely suggest going 2 hours ahead of time.

Normally they open gates 1.5 hours before game time on weekdays and 2 hours before game time on weekends, I'm not sure if they'll open earlier on Canada Day because it's a holiday but I'd definitely account for that possibility.

Unfortunately, this is entirely dependent on when they open the gates. The home team always takes batting practice first and it's usually hours before the game. The only way to see any Blue Jays at all in BP is if the gates opened 2 hours ahead of time and you went in right at that time. In those cases you might catch the last little bit of Blue Jays BP.

Then the other team comes out and does theirs. You'll catch a bunch of the away team's BP even if it's a weekday and gates didn't open until 1.5 hours before game time. We always go early and pretty much always catch a few of the away team's BP squads.

Yeah canada day is going to be f***ing slammed busy. Its a national holiday and most people have work off. People will be taking their families downtown early.

If you want the jersey I would show up no later than gate opening time.

This may be a dumb question, but are the replica jerseys they give away a 1 size fits all thing? They don't have smaller youth ones eh?

Nope, pretty sure they’re all Large or XLarge. No size choice.

Also from what i’ve seen they aren’t the same quality as actual replica jerseys you buy from the shop, these giveaways are completely screen printed I believe

Still a free jersey though
