Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Bolsinger is out of options. So he has to be on the big league team all season? Or can he start in the minors and once called up he can't be sent down again?

Sorry all, I'm not being very clear. I know he's out of options and I know that if he's on the 25 man roster and sent down he'd have to clear waivers (he wouldn't). My question is, can he just start the year in AAA without having to be optioned? If so then it would make sense to have him fully stretched out starting down there rather than being the long reliever on the big league team.

Basically, he has to start the season in the big leagues. If not, then they have to expose him to waivers.

Ok thanks. So when making mock 25 man rosters he should probably be included then. He's our only legit SP depth right now there is no way they lose him. BTS should list him on the Offseason Roster Thread; he's got to be a safe bet to make the team.

Kind of sucks this is the situation. If he's the only legit SP depth and he has to be benchwarming in the bullpen then that's not especially great for keeping him loose as a starter. Manufacturing Biagini into another SP seems even more legitimate now.

Then when the time comes he'll have to be on a strict pitch count until he can build up.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Last years spring training video on smith He throws from the side????? I like this signing even more now!
The Iceman Verified Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Does Smith struggle with LH hitters? Looks like he would be tough against RH hitters.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 SP depth options will be at peak availability during Spring Training. It seems like people aren't aware of that fact.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 SP depth options will be at peak availability during Spring Training. It seems like people aren't aware of that fact. Good depth options?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Good depth options? Guys like Bolsinger. Better depth than that must come from prospects and not minor league signings.
jerb Verified Member Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Buster Olney Verified account @Buster_ESPN Joe Smith's deal with the Jays: a $3 million base with $500K in performance bonuses.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 So we basically got Smith + Howell for roughly what we may have paid for a guy like Blevins...
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 So we basically got Smith + Howell for roughly what we may have paid for a guy like Blevins... And both will probably be just as effective.
Gary Verified Member Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 And both will probably be just as effective. Shartkins with the shark moves.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 And both will probably be just as effective. I wouldn't bet on that, but still decent moves nonetheless.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Bump. What a success. I love little moves like this: a 1-year $3M contract and the team gets 35 great innings (worth about a win probably), and then a couple of lottery tickets for the farm.
