John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Wasn't expecting Urena. Might as well play him everyday instead of Goins. He was a given call up since he's on the 40 man the Jays have 0 backup infielders right now.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Urena at short will be interesting. I'm curious to see his glove, which was always seen as a strength.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Been lamented often on here but Jose: 82 wRC+ Negative 0.3 WAR 24% K rate .693 OPS He was better with the Pirates in 2007 with a 97 wRC+. What a nightmare season. Too bad to see one of the best hitters we have ever had go out this way. I wonder if he is done. Will anyone give this guy 1/5 praying for a dead cat bounce?

I hope he retires. He's finished, and watching him like this sucks. He seems like he has too much pride to be one of those guys who hangs on for years after their expiry date. Also, imagine if they'd given him a 5-year deal before 2016?

He'll say he's playing hurt. No way Jose says he's just done.

He seems like he has too much pride to be one of those guys who hangs on for years after their expiry date. Also, imagine if they'd given him a 5-year deal before 2016? Agree. I shudder to think. He did demand 5/150 deal after 2015 and publically indicated no need to negotiate on it. A friend of mine in TOR used him for some ads. They went to lunch and he reiterated all this to him. Like he had quite a chip on his shoulder. Jose did some voodoo math with him about his incremental value to Rogers, that he felt he could deduce because they were a pubco. In other words, most of what was reported around that was accurate.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 He'll probably find somewhere to sign next year for ~10M. Holliday type deal. Hopefully not here. Pretty excited for the youth movement to hit. Alford-Pillar-Pompey-Teoscar at some point next year! Pearce UTIL/DL

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 lol Pompey is basically Travis without the big league success. Actually might even be more injury prone.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Some good stuff here on Vlad jr. and Bo... https://mobile.twitter.com/MLBNetwork/status/903951151015403520/video/1

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 The Bisons' season ends tomorrow so we should see a few more call ups. Campos, and, Chris Smith for the bullpen, Rowley for starting depth, plus Alford and maybe even Borucki?

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Yeah and it's good for him too. He's played well in limited time so maybe someone with an OF need will give him a shot to join the pennant race. Or a warm body, Mets. I noticed today, he is with the Mets...
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 You wouldn't trade Vlad for Cutch? Vlad's upside is nice, but he's super far away, and there are already big question marks about his future position. He's likely to never provide the kind of value that McCutchen will provide in the next two years. There's a chance you trade him and that he becomes a spittin image of Vlad Sr. yes, but the odds are strongly against him. There's plenty of big name IFA signings with prodigious power and seemingly excellent bat to ball skills that flamed out. If the Pirates offer you McCutchen for Vlad Jr. + Matt Smoral and some other C or D level prospect I think you take it and run. Hit well in the second half and finish the season hitting like he generally does. A lot of his defensive woes were apparently from positioning though a nagging injury could also have contributed. I'm not sure if I'd move Vlad Jr for McCutchen if it's like Vlad Jr. ++ but as a straight up trade it couldn't really hurt. You don't have to like the idea of trading Vlad Jr. for Cutch. Hell, I could make a decent argument not to (but I won't because I would do it straight up). But your reasoning behind it being that he might not even be a replacement level player moving forward because he would have to adjust to the Rick Porcello's of the world is egregious. You're certainly entitled to an opinion, but when your opinion is based off of foolishness it loses all credibility. BTS, Orgfiller, Sorrow, L54 all on record as willing to move Vlad for Cutch last offseason. smh.

Cutch has put up 3 WAR and counting this year, Vlad's crushing high A MILB ball, and nobody saw this type of progress.

Jays are not a team that should be moving prospects for players in their decline years. Full stop.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 It's almost as if Vlad wasn't a concencus top 5 prospect in baseball at that time.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 All hail Jim, the smartest man on the interwebs. Buxton wRC+ up to 93, 3.2 WAR. 30/30 guy at his peak
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Meh, it wasn't dumb then, his value has skyrocketed since. You never not listen on offers, period. It was dumb, given the years of control Cutch had. Maybe on a younger team without so much committed payroll to aging veterans, it would be more palatable, but it was stupid in our situation.

Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
