Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Signing free agents isn't so easy. Hard to get someone to agree to backup for Russell Martin if they're trying to rebuild their value. Smart move for Norris with Wilson Ramos out for some time and the rest of the catchers in Tampa being garbage.
rydermike Verified Member Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 I read that as Darwin Barney at first because I looked too quickly and was like "God no, what the hell is wrong with them taking Goins" Then I re-read it and realized it wasn't Barney. Obviously I was wrong, Shatkins are not idiots

He's better defensively than Salty and probably not much different with the bat

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Chances we can sign Luis Roberts?
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Chances we can sign Luis Roberts? zero? pretty sure the Blue Jays can't sign anyone for over $300k until July 2nd. He's been heavily linked to other teams, anyway, and usually when that happens in the international rumour market the rumours are true.

The article I saw said most of the typical big spenders won't be able to take a run at him (Jays weren't listed).

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 rip schultz Kind of a non-story unless it's really serious. Wasn't going to make the team anyways.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Feels like Neil Wagner all over again
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Neil Wagner s***... I had forgotten all about him.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 s***... I had forgotten all about him. we overused him and f***ed up his arm, poor guy
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 we overused him and f***ed up his arm, poor guy Neil Wagner was overused? lol
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Neil Wagner was overused? lol Gibby ran him out for like 50 pitches one game and I don't think he pitched for like a year after that.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Neil Wagner was overused? lol it wasn't in terms of pitching appearances, it was more pitch count. I remember he had a few 40 pitch innings or 2 inning stints edit: looks like the game log doesn't seem too bad in September but he did have a crazy August http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=wagnene01&t=p&year=2013
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Gibby ran him out for like 50 pitches one game and I don't think he pitched for like a year after that. Looks like he pitched effectively for the rest of the year after a 45 pitch relief outing (with a ton of off days surrounding it). 40 pitches is rare but it's not unseen. Betances threw 40 pitches against Toronto last year, in September, in the second game of back-to-back appearances. Meh. Most teams ask their depth relievers to wear the odd game. I bet Bo Schultz has had a few 40+ pitch Blue Jays outings.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Pretty stoked about not having to watch Mat Latos.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 eh? http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2016&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=2918,3123 I dunno.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Would Atlanta even provide regular playing time? Or San Diego for that matter? Toronto, SF, and Detroit seem like good opportunities for him, both playing time and for winning. This is assuming all the salary offers are comparable.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 I'm not really too clear on why so many people want Pagan aside from the fact that we'd get an excuse to re-do the most handsome list. Is he even better than Upton?

Is he even better than Upton? Well he strikes out at a 1/3 of Upton's rate, has a decent walk rate and OBP, had an above average wRC+. I could see him provide 2-3 WAR much easier than Upton.
