After his known struggles in July/August, Judge has posted a wRC+ of 176 in September. His K% and BB% are much improved and he's basically the hitter we saw from March to the All-Star break.

 

Was his shoulder the issue? Did pitchers adjust and he's countered with another adjustment? It is just baseball's natural hot/cold swings?

 

I believe they adjusted, and he's countered, really shows something, or a bit of all of the above.

Houston in February (along with my annual Rays bet which I sold half to J4L, it's not magic to have him in on a bet), After NFL week 1 and I had a small hit I grabbed the Twins to win the AL at 21-1 ($5) and the Cubs to win the World Series 8-1 ($15)

There is talent, and performance, which leads to run-differential which leads to wins, then the playoffs are mostly (but not completely) luck.

Cool article on Buxton - who I'm fascinated by these days. I had no idea he's actually faster than Billy Hamilton and wonder if he'll be able to improve his base stealing abilities moving forward (to say become a 50+ SB guy). I'm really excited to see what Buxton can become. I'd love to see him develop into a 25 hr / 50 sb, 120+ wRC+ hitter who's the best defensive CF and best base runner in baseball.

You're starting to hear people talk about MVP awards these days. When discussing the NL, I've rarely, if ever, heard anyone mention Anthony Rendon, despite the fact he continues to lead the NL position players in WAR. He's had a phenomenal year on a 1st place team.

 

Baseball is making strides to use more accurate and appropriate stats to evaluate players; however, it's clear we still have a long way to go.

I feel like this is a good thing to bring up again, how minor league players are woefully under-budgeted to provide for themselves. I felt like the use of the heirarchy of needs of "realizing one's potential" was used literally which made me cringe, but this problem seems to becoming more aware.

I wonder how much it would cost for the Jays to build a dormitory like building for at least their low level minor league players. Most of the teams are in areas that are fairly inexpensive and they could provide housing, proper diet, and training facilities all in one place where they could be monitored by the coaching staff.

If I had to guess, I'd say probably in the 5 to 10 million range per city, depending on the additional facilities.

I'd think for the teams that we have a long tenured relationship with it might be worth it. It would take the burden of trying to live below the poverty line, and give the organization better control over their assets. It might be worth investigating.

I think he'll win it regardless. I wouldn't be surprised if JD Martinez doesn't get more votes than Bryant does either, given the ridiculous recent impact he's had.
