KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Completely and totally unrelated, but your comment reminded of me this totally fascinating non-story: http://www.newstatesman.com/science-tech/internet/2016/12/movie-doesn-t-exist-and-redditors-who-think-it-does (Recommended for posters who were born in 1990 or slightly earlier; I predict that Kat, at least, will enjoy this though.) The movie was Kazaam and it stared Shaq - not Sinbad This phenomenom is just weird to me. I can understand getting the title wrong. I though it was Shazaam too since that's just more intuitive but Shaq becoming Sinbad in people's minds is just weird to me. This movie is infamous for being part of Shaq's much maligned acting career. It was even mocked on a 1999 Simpsons. http://www.cartoonextra.com/the-simpsons-season-11-episode-1 (pretty spamey link but it does work, reference is at 4:40).
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Not that it was a good signing necessarily, but I don't think Dave Cameron realizes that Morales is a switch hitter with pretty decent splits from both sides. I say this given that all of the comps are to platoon hitters who aren't as good. Does Steamer, Zips, etc. factor in that a player's ABs will come in a platoon against his favorable side? I think most of the projections have Alvarez and Morales as similar hitters next year.

I think most of the projections have Alvarez and Morales as similar hitters next year. Probably, or if not they're simply just projecting their hitting line based on their previous results, where a player's results are influenced by how they're platooned. For instance, Alvarez is a career 118 wRC+ vs RHP and 68 wRC+ vs LHP. Morales on the other hand is 117 vs RHP and 107 vs LHP, so you don't need to waste a roster spot on a platoon partner nor do you have to worry about taking him out of the game if a lefty specialist comes in.

King Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 If this Eric Hosmer extension happens it's going to be absurd.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 If this Eric Hosmer extension happens it's going to be absurd. And they aren't even talking to Lorenzo or Moose lmao
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 If this Eric Hosmer extension happens it's going to be absurd. Shapiro called him the best defensive 1B in the league in a recent interview. The eye test is somewhat supportive of that statement, but stats say the total opposite so I found his statement interesting.

Man I saw this a couple of months ago and when I was a kid I swear I watched a movie called shazaam with Sinbad. I have no idea how I mixed that up.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 That's an insanely good deal for this late into the offseason for a player that's not particularly good. Boras is really good at his job.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Nats got a good deal on him. He should provide value on that contract.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Boras is definitely very good, but IMO he's getting a bit long in the tooth. He was on the Jonah Keri podcast a couple of weeks ago and talked at length about the MLBPA, unions in general, international drafts, etc. He also talked about Wieters specifically. Highly recommended listen.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 That's an insanely good deal for this late into the offseason for a player that's not particularly good. He's battled a lot of injuries the last few years that have really hurt his numbers, but he was still 14th in WAR last year among catchers. He's not a great framer, but is plus defensively in everything else. IMO it's a good deal for the Nats.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Different interview, but does Boras think people are retarded or...? I think Boras KNOWS people are retarded. The average IQ of his clientele is probably 90. And the suits he negotiates with, 50% of them are just his clientele all grown up and bald.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Different interview, but does Boras think people are retarded or...? He's f***ing smart. Aaron will be rich very soon
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 TSN's Steve Phillips was the Mets GM? Blew my mind today when I found this out. I want to believe that he never was and Steve himself just edited his wiki page.

I'm surprised you didn't know that, you must be young.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 FFS - is this another one of those Shazaam jokes? Steve Phillips comes off as a massive tool.
