NYY president talking s*** too now about Betances' agent saying he asked for closer's money lol. He was an all-star 3 years in a row and basically throws until his arm falls off for the pinstripes. Organization is drowning in money and haggling over this stuff is ridiculous.

The Yankees should be absolutely embarrassed about this.

lol at criticizing for asking for closer's money, when he's a top-5 reliever in the game. Embarrassing.

I guess we should thank the Yankees though.

Salaries for dominant non-closers will continue to be affordable as opposed to if he got his $5 million

And while Betances will continue to dominate, I don't expect him to be willing to go above and beyond now.

It's really surprising, considering the big money guys like Cecil, Dunn, and Logan got. Melancon got 15M a year for 4 years. Betances has 8.5 fWAR over 3 seasons!, so $5M still seems a huge bargain even if it is his first year of Arb. Yankees cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Holy f***, what a tool.

It's like he knows what trade value relievers has and is forcing a trade request out of him. Oh wait that's probably the best thing for the team.

It's probably been posted already, but this is a bit of a mindf*** for me.

I thought the new colour was what they were already using, it's like my brain did some auto-correct thing.

Completely and totally unrelated, but your comment reminded of me this totally fascinating non-story:

That is fascinating. I don't remember a Shazaam movie, but this:

On 11 August 2015, the popular gonzo news site VICE published a story about a conspiracy theory surrounding the children’s storybook characters the Berenstain Bears. The theory went like this: many people remember that the bears’ name was spelt “Berenstein” – with an “e” – but pictures and old copies proved it was always spelt with an “a”. The fact that so many people had the same false memory was seen as concrete proof of the supernatural.

I had a Berenstein Bears book when I was a kid in the eighties. I thought it was spelled with an 'e'. Of course I don't have that book anymore....

This topic reminds me of the Thunderbird photo that a lot of people swear they've seen but no one has ever located.

Memory is a weird thing. A lot of research has shown memories are not nearly as accurate as people used to think, and they can involve a lot of confabulation.

The wife of Yordano Ventura was lover of Jose Bautista before this marry with Ventura.

Ventura's wife went to a playoff game between Kansas and Toronto to visit Bautista, there she met Yordano and then they got married.

Gold digger lol

It's one of the worst in hindsight only because the front office grossly misread the market for 1B/DH types. Granted, I think almost everyone in baseball did. Did anyone really think Edwin would end up signing for 3 years and $65 million? A lot were predicting more than that, and then the market played out the way it did.

Looking back, Morales probably could've been had on a 2 year $20 million deal. I thought 3 years at the time was overkill and still do.

The worst transactions of 2017 by Dave Cameron. The Jays and Morales comes in at #2 overall worst transaction behind the Ian Desmond signing.

"If the Jays released him tomorrow, he still wouldn’t be the best left-handed DH available in free agency, since Pedro Alvarez remains unsigned even after spring training has begun."

Ummm... What?

Morales would have gotten way less than 2 for 20. Chris Carter is an easily comparable player and he got 1 year 3 million.

Yeah that's a stretch to say Alvarez is better but the two are actually pretty comparable with their bats. One of them got 3 years 33 million and the other can't even find a job.

I do think the criticism of the Desmond deal is a bit short sighted too. He even admits in the article that the deal is quite a good one if Desmond was an outfielder.

Well there is zero chance Desmond plays 1B for the full length of the contract and it's quite possible that the Rockies end up making a move as soon as later this season to open up space for him in either the outfield or middle infield.

Well, Alvarez is a platoon bat (strong side mind you) where Morales isn't.

Not that it was a good signing necessarily, but I don't think Dave Cameron realizes that Morales is a switch hitter with pretty decent splits from both sides. I say this given that all of the comps are to platoon hitters who aren't as good.
