Not really sure where we will turn now if this is in fact true. Bautista or perhaps trades.

Dont be surprised if Shatkins doesn't run Upton out there every day in Left and Pearce everyday in Right

who's left?

Rasmus, Moss, Pagan, Saunders, Bautista, Valbuena, Napoli, are all interesting to some degree, with Napoli and Valbuena pushing Pearce to the OF on a near full-time basis.

I still really like Moss as an option. He's not as good as Fowler, or as good a fit, but he should come a LOT cheaper and is still an average outfielder defensively. He and Upton would provide a very nice platoon.

This is good news IF we allocate the ~70 mil and draft pick assets elsewhere. Bautista and Granderson top my list, but there are many appealing trade targets. Get one of them and a guy like Seth Smith and the offense looks great.

Yeah Moss is a good fit. I'd sign him regardless and they need 2 OF.

None of Passan, Rosenthal, Morosi, Nightengale, Cotillo or Heyman have tweeted anything about it.

I like Moss too. Sit him against tough lefties (maybe an Upton platoon) and he'll produce close to 2 wins, and likely comes on a 1 year deal.

I also really like the idea of Valbuena. He's quietly put up a 115 wRC+ over 1400 PA the last three years. He's been an average defender at 3B, which means he'd probably be a good defender at 1st, can handle 2B if you need him to, and I'd probably give him time on the OF in spring to see how he looks. That's a flexible piece, and the expectations seems to be a contract in the 2/20 range for a guy you'd expect about 4 WAR from over the two years.

For what it's worth, he did say that he "confirmed with "the Cardinals", meaning he's confirmed it with the club.

Interesting that he's doing the physical before it's even confirmed that he's signed with them. Maybe that means he hasn't. But things aren't looking good.
