OK. so rate the options best to worst ...

Saunders / Fowler / Reddick / Bautista / Desmond / ( just go with ) pompey

Kind of hard without knowing how much each would sign for. Example in a general sense I'd take Reddick over Saunders. However, I'd take Saunders at 2/18 before Reddick at 4/64.

If were going with a projected salary though I'll take a stab

Fowler/Reddick/Bautista/Saunders/Desmond/Pompey

i am kind of curious what Pompey could give us over a whole season.

I would spend my money at 1b and a quality back up for Martin, take a shot in the OF with

Pillar , Upton, Carrera, Pompey

Pillar is just that.. PILLAR, average offence, Spectacular Defence

Upton.. Hmmm. Not platooning, could he be much better?

Carrera.. Again, what would he be not playing part time?

Pompey.. I love him, why have the jays not loved him? they do know more than me .. lol

That would be a putrid outfield offensively. Pillar is well below average. Upton is a solid platoon, zeke is a 4th OF at best.

As for Pompey, he hasnt really shown he belongs at the MLB level. He's putting up very average offensive numbers in AAA, and his once touted defence looks to have taken a dive. Until he can be consistently solid at AAA there's no reason to have him up with the big club

Pompey is a total wild card right now. He could be a 2 WAR player or he could be replacement level. We don't really know and it's not really worth the gamble IMO. He can be the 5th OF in AAA, we need depth anyway.

This is what i am afraid of. He has a hot 3 weeks to end the season and people are going to want him more and i am hoping Gib was not drinking the Zeke Kool-aid

Uhmm you want to replace Saunders & Bautista with Carerra and Pompey in hopes of finding a Votto like first baseman. And you said Smoak is going hit 30HR or something?

An OF of Pillar-Pompey-Upton-Carrera has a chance to be the worst outfield in baseball. Possible sub-80 wRC+ as a unit.

Pompey ( bang for buck best deal) flyer

Saunders maybe if 8 mill or less

Batz's but I think that ship has sailed unless under 18 mill

Reddick yikes no but Qo, still think pagan is better and would cost less in both money and years. Red is the board fav

Fowler, Desmond both in years and money and the picks attached seem like no goes!

Based on performance the top and bottom 1-2 would flip, no doubt, Batz might drop also!

I would go Angel and Gomez money and years may require less commitment then for Reddick alone!

Then I ship Upton and maybe Zeke outta here for bullpen help or minor leaguers!

Promote Pompey to Fourth outfielder and have Pagan mentor him as that's the type of career and player we all hope Pompey might be for us!

What's Pearce actually like in the OF? Assuming they can get him, is it worth flipping a free Melvin Upton to plug a hole? My gut says no but I'm sure someone may have done a breakdown of this somewhere. I'm curious because there's almost no talk of Upton at all. I suppose that kind of value at no cost isn't something you can pass up.

Also, I keep forgetting Carlos Gomez exists.

Hopefully the other Gm's have too and we can strike quick and Steal him Cheap too!

Pillar,Pompey,Pagen and Gomez the Rated PG outfield!!!

Speed, base stealing , flexibility and no platoons required!!!

Win win win!!! Pillar might even get a day off not related to injury too. :)

Gomez is an interesting case. He's still a plus runner and defender, but his bat completely dropped off the cliff over the past 2 years - with the exception of 130 PA's with Texas late last year, when he was phenomenal (wRC+ of 139). He seems like a prime candidate to sign a 1 year "prove it" contract and what better place to do that then in RF in a Blue Jays uni?

That said, there's no way I'd be on his bat enough to give him a 2 or 3 year deal. That defense and base running is only going to decline.

I'd consider a 2 or 3 year deal for Gomez depending on the AAV. 31, 32 and 33 year old seasons - he should be able to hang on to decent baserunning and defense.

Hard to say because he moves around a lot. He's a solid 1B, passable at 2B and decent in the OF. I guess people expect that he's just a statue but that's not the case.

I'd be most worried about arm strength after his elbow surgery.

He was worth 2 wins in 2016 while playing 85 games. My biggest issue is this label he has as a platoon bat; he's been a 123 wRC+ since 2013 vs. righties in 730 PAs.

Steve Pearce is a REALLY good player. He deserves far more respect than he's getting. I would literally s*** my pants if we signed him. 3/45? Will take that, easily.

I'd actually gamble on Gomez for 2 years if it's around 8M AAV or less. I'd do 1/10 as well

I have seen him at and have him costing about 11-12 but I had morales 2-5 mill higher cost too!

I would have pagan at 12-14 mil, which may be high also and may only want on a one or one and a option deal but a heathly buyout in the offer to land him!

Posted
I'd go one year + club option/buyout at most on Gomez. A second and/or third year could come back to bite us if he doesn't rebound.

He still had a 260ave, 327 obp, and 757 ops not all bad, ok ?

Also over the last 3 years even though SSS his numbers look better at the Rogers Center too!

Pagan can't remember exactly now, but I think they were ok as well.plus if I remember his numbers against our Al breathern and league looked interesting too!

Plus Adding Pagen Gomez and Pompey to the line up surely gives you base running options late in games and 40 to 50 more stolen bases next year easy!

To Switch Hitters in the outfield and two righties and all can play or have seen time in all fields!

Plus no platoons yes yes yes

Haven't looked at the comparable stats but i would guess Kevin ranks as a below average hitter. He's ok cuz he's still cheap though.

Look at the stats, watch the TV, see it live...it all tells you the same thing - Pillar's a below average hitter.

BTW - You need a new handle in the worst way...my god

and 4.9 WAR in 2014 in only 103 games (383 PA's) - god damn, sign this man.
