Oooo good one

Two of my all time favorite players

it's funny, Olerud seems like a really quiet and chill dude, but out of all top Jays franchise players, he's probably the biggest douche of all of them

Its funny how people call him a d-bag but he has never had a run in with any of his teammates or coaches. I mean Donaldson complains to umpires and acts pretty selfish, even had the thing with Gibbons, yet no one says anything.

Its sad but I think some of it has to do with him being Dominican (not around here but the casual fan base).

I don't think so. I think it has to do with his very visible, frequent, and demonstrative arguments with the umps. Lots of people may complain, but most don't show the umps up. Apparently one of the worst offenders in baseball was Jeter, but he did it in such a way that no one ever noticed.

Alomar over Stieb is LOL worthy.

TBH I didn't put 100% thought into the order. I just listed Bautista among our all time top 5.

Order is debatable

The Angels have atleast seen the playoffs, they have been relevant

The Jays through the entirety of the Delagdo and Halladay era did not even once sniff a game that matters. They were not in a single race.

If neither had existed, nothing would have changed.

That in itself proves my point. Mike Trout is great every year....every year. Sometimes he has good players around him and they make the playoffs. Other years, the team around him sucks and the teams sucks. Mike Trout is the best player in baseball in both situations.

Mike Trout has played 3 playoff games. He'd still be the best player in baseball if he hadn't played those 3 games.

I think there's a decent chance he feels like he got ripped off on the previous deal he signed with the Jays and has the mindset that he has to get overpaid this time around to make up for it. That of course is incredible short sighted (given the Jays took a big risk on him after 1 good season).

Yeah that wouldn't surprise me. That's why I'm open to giving him a fair deal, maybe even higher than deserved, but it's simply too much of a gamble to give him $20M for three years imo.

Trout has been to the postseason once in 6 years.

Halladay was in the postseason twice in 16 years.

They were BOTH great in both situations.

I'd love to hear your rationale for this!

Presuming he does, do the Jays try to work out another short term deal, or just let him walk for a draft pick?

I think they would take him back on the cheap...but my gut tells me they're ready to cut ties and pocket that 1st rounder.

Beyond our Top 5, who goes higher Olerud or EE?

Do you mean as a Jay or overall

Overall Olerud's best 5 seasons are 8.1, 8.1, 5.8, 4.6, 4.5

EEs are 4.5, 4.3, 4.0, 3.9, 3.6

Olerud's 5th best season is a about the same as EEs best.

Olerud lost several prime years to 70% playing time and being told 'pull dat ball'

Olerud sat for Jacob Brumfield against righthanders occasionally in 96. In 96 he didn't get 400 at bats.

Olerud as a Jay had 500 at bats once... once... once...

What was done to Olerud started the long decay of our society that led to Donald Trump (or if you like Donald Trump, you can say that Liberals did not understand Olerud, just as they did not understand Trump).

Obviously as a Jay, we can't give value outside of the team as our Franchise Top players, otherwise Roger Clemens is our team's #1.

Sorry, I've been distracted with my (adopted) countries journey into Trumpland and have not given this fine community the attention it deserves, so I wasn't aware of the full nature of the discussion (there is a fine political thread on the OT, which perhaps in retrospect would of been fun to follow Nov8 through early Nov9).

Anyway... my back of the napkin calculation says they are tied according to fwar

Olerud is the better talent, as Jays they are equal, because Cito is a bad man.

Seriously Cito is worse than Trump, John Boehner and Bob McCowan, both talk about Cruz/Cito, the same way, as if they are some sort of devil creature far worse than anything else imaginable.

Sweet! Now we can all join hands and s*** on the greatest hitter in the history of the franchise.

Sorry quoted wrong post previously. Love the sentiment of this one, even though it's debatable who the greatest hitter is. Love JB!

I wonder if JB delayed the decision on the QO to see how the Jays were going to do on the FA market.

There's no upside to declaring early, only downside. Maybe you fall down the stairs or something, etc.
