G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2016 Author Posted November 14, 2016 Presuming he does, do the Jays try to work out another short term deal, or just let him walk for a draft pick?

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Presuming he does, do the Jays try to work out another short term deal, or just let him walk for a draft pick? I believe any team giving Bautista a multi year deal should be planning to have him spend significant time as a DH. The Jays signing Morales should signal the end of Bautista's time in Toronto, but we'll soon know know for sure.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Jays want dem draft picks. Wouldn't surprise me if the Jays get an OF soon after the QO deadline is over.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Calling him a douche isn't s***ing on his accomplishments. That's just his personality.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 eeeh wasn't Alomar hated by the time he left? I was too young to remember that, although I certainly remember everybody turning on him when he spat in that ump's face.
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I see no reason to s*** on Bautista and I'll be sure to have tickets for his first game back to give him his standing O
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Sweet! Now we can all join hands and s*** on the greatest hitter in the history of the franchise. by wRC+ Great hitter, but he's undeniably kind of an arrogant cock.

I don't really give a s*** if he's a douche. He is, but so is Donaldson, and we're all more than happy to let that slide. People want to run Jose out of town like he's f***ing R.A. Dickey. If he leaves, that's ok, but let's not act like he's the giant burden we're finally free of. The dude was absolutely incredible for us and had a HOF peak that no other team enjoyed but us, and he was underpaid the entire time.

That was one of the lowest points I've ever had watching baseball. Alomar was my idol, even when he wasn't a Jay, I would fake swing a game tying bomb with my arms raised up, mimicking him . I remember watching that game when he spat on the ump and I was dumbfounded. I was 13 I think and my heart just sank when I realized the best players can be *******s.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 All sediments aside, there are short term FA's who will provide similar value, without costing us a draft pick. We add a draft pick when he signs elsewhere. Win-win.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 People seem to forget how he single-handedly carries us past Texas last year. He was ridiculous in the post-season in 2015. A real shame we can't sign him to a lengthy contract, and have him retire here. A big send-off and retirement game is the kind of thing that keeps fans loyal to the game, even in the down years. Toronto has never really gotten that though. We never hang on to any of our veteran franchise players. That's why we'll never pack a stadium in September when we're under .500
admin Site Manager Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I don't know if accepting QO would be a terrible move for him. The problem is he thinks he's still a $20M+ player, and beginning of this year probably $25M+. Why not accept QO, prove you can still hit and stay healthy, then sign a decent two year deal somewhere. That being said, it would probably be better for him to sign a three year deal now, as the odds of him staying healthy and getting a better deal from now aren't that great.

If he can get a 3 year 45M deal he should (and probably will) take it

Toronto has never really gotten that though. We never hang on to any of our veteran franchise players. That's why we'll never pack a stadium in September when we're under .500 I just think he's too arrogant and his ego is too big. He still wants to be paid like an elite hitter. I have no issue giving him a fair deal but I don't think he takes a fair deal. Not to mention he probably shouldn't be in the outfield anymore. He hit 40HR just one year ago. Before this season he was probably looking at $20-$25M per for three years. I'm sure it's not easy to take the big drop in value from this year.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Even if he accepted the QO and went back on the market next year, what team is going to offer a 37 year old more than a two year deal? If he gets a three year offer this winter, he should take it and run.

But Trevor Bauer is favorite of some around here and good for the game because he battles casuals on Twitter.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 If we replace Jose and EE with redick and morales does anyone hear think we're a playoff team? I'm not so sure we are. Add Votto to that mix and I'm on board.
