Laika Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Honestly, I would rather sign Mark Teixeira and hope for one more dead cat bounce. Mostly because Morales is young enough to demand 2 or 3 years. Tex would be one and done. Of course even better would be a Steve Pearce + any viable LHB platoon
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2016 Author Posted November 8, 2016 Yeah, committing to Morales for two years @ 10-13 per year seems like a bit much. I'd be a lot more comfortable with a 2nd year option. Also not crazy about locking a DH in so early in the offseason. There are similar hitters available who can also play the field.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 They'll trade for Votto though so this is moot
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Meh... I'd rather we brought back Adam Lind. - He had a bad year last year, so he'll probably be pretty cheap. - He hit better in Toronto than anywhere else he landed. - His wife is from Toronto, so he'd probably like to come back. - Rasmus is off the team, so he's probably like the environment a lot more. - He gave the best interviews I've ever seen.

Lind should probably just retire. He's old, embarrassed himself last year, has made a ton of money, and doesn't even like baseball. Time to get fat.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I mean switch hitter is nice - and the guy can hit, but Morales seems like a fall back option at best. I thought we wanted more speed and versatility. He's the polar opposite of that.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 2/18 i don't mind. Coming into a hitters ball park it is very possible that he could put up some solid numbers. He is not really a strikeout machine and does take the odd walk. Obviously same as anyone if the price is right then it would be worth the gamble.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I think I'd rather sign Saunders at similar money to Morales, if we want to go that route. Keep him (mostly) at DH rather than LF obviously.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Texiera is retiring dumbass I thought he said in April that he wanted to play "five more years". I guess he changed his mind

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 My god I could just imagine the man crush Gibbons would have on such a "professional hitter". For that alone I hope it doesn't happen. Pearce and Holliday. Make it happen.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Pearce and Holliday. Make it happen. Yes, please.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Yuck, not a fan of Morales. If he doesn't cost that much having his 110 w RC+ switch hitting bat in the lineup isn't going to hurt but I'd prefer someone that could play the field.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 The Jays are not going to sign who they want, they are going to sign who they can.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 The Jays are not going to sign who they want, they are going to sign who they can. Good point although sometimes the two can be the same. But in this instance if Morales seems really keen it's something to consider rather than chasing a guy who may be better but doesn't have interest in signing here (for example perhaps Holliday).
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Here is the thing. Unless we have 180M dollar payroll they are going to have to take some chances on cheaper contracts somewhere. Due to have vacant spots in LF, RF, 1B/DH whiles still having big contracts on Martin, Tulo, JD and hopefully EE. So as i said Morales maybe a worthy risk to put up 2WAR moving him to a hitters ballpark for 8-9M per season any more then that won't be worth it in my eyes

Yup, Holliday or Napoli perhaps?
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Signing Morales, at this early stage, would be so demoralizing in the context of the Jays' chances of signing EE or JB to a reasonable contract. Even if some of us already see the writing on the wall.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I'm fine with Morales. No compensation. Much shorter term. Probably half of what Eddie will sign for. Use that extra cash and put it into the OF.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Yup, Holliday or Napoli perhaps? Napoli is even worse than Morales. He'd be a terrible fit for the lineup and given how much money he will get I don't want any part.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Edwin's agent is looking for 5/125, are you willing to give 3/60 to sign Morales? I don't see him getting 20/yr.
