TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Probably you are right. But it was the first example that came to mind and it does show how trading for a player that has won a past award doesn't mean you will be getting that high level of play from them. Hmm... a 37 year old pitcher with a one-trick gimmick versus a top three hitter in baseball from 2009-2015... I can definitely why you'd use one as a precedence for the other.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I've never seen people so outraged at the possibility of acquiring a recent MVP. You guys need to simma down, McCutchen would be a phenomenal addition to this team for 2 years. I don't think people are outraged, just the validity is BS.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 That's a fair take, but I don't buy that he's in steep decline already at his age. He is playing out of position in CF, but I think his bat has a good chance to jump back up to the .380 wOBA range. Perhaps you are right, but is it worth the risk at the prices being mentioned? Say you get a 60% at a 4 WAR player. I think we could do better by spreading those resources around on a lesser LF and relievers.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I'm actually finding myself shouldering my way to the front of the Pagan train. For some reason I keep forgetting he's a switch-hitter. Throw in the good defense for a smaller park and less intense position (LF in RC) + a low K-rate and some good baserunning numbers. I like it. Coincidentally, the biggest Pagan proponent back when the offseason was young was the late BBBB. edit: And this hair Good defense is somewhat questionable. I have seen more conflicting reports and stats for him than most other players.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) Looks like 18 million for Bautista if you want to update BTS. EDIT: Looks like the 18 million includes whatever options/buyouts are contained within the deal so he may make less than 18 this year. Edited January 17, 2017 by Terminator
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I'm too lazy to go searching through my posts but I could swear I proposed something pretty darn close to these numbers at one point.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 There should still be 10 Mil left why is a left handed bat out now?
Ray Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Wonder if we'd be able to get Austin Jackson on a minor league deal. I'd be willing to take a flier on him. Even for $1-2 million or so. He's not a lefty hitter, but has good splits all around.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 If we're looking at a ST competition between unproven options for the backup catcher job, we should at least add another name to the list. Juan Graterol was DFA'd by Arizona to make room for Iannetta, he might be better than the options we have in place now.

Yeah I'd be all for adding guys like that to the team to compete for the backup spot. All the big league names right (guys like Conger, Clevenger, etc.) are just slop anyway.

Same 16 with a 2 million buyout... and a team option of 20. So I was wrong on the option as it's a mutual. C'mon Shatkins and Jose, get together and do this. One would think a 1 year deal @ 16 with a team option at 20 and a 2 million buyout would get this done.
george09 Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) So this is our current lineup LF: Upton/Zeke RF: Bautista CF: Pillar 1B: Pearce 2B: Travis 3B: Donaldson SS: Tulo DH: Morales C: Martin Very worried about LF. Edited January 18, 2017 by george09

LF is questionable, but the rest of the lineup should be very, very good. Adding someone like Moss would be incredible, but that's a lineup that should be able to compete.

I was about to seriously doubt your lineup-making abilities but then I realized that you just listed them by position and not spot in the order lol.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Doesn't Goins have to be on the MLB roster too.
wk680 Verified Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Doesn't Goins have to be on the MLB roster too. Someone is going to be the odd man out, even if Pompey doesn't make it. I guess Goins is out of options, so the only way to keep him without being on the active roster is to do an outright assignment to AAA, which will require clearing waivers. My understanding is a player needs a total of 3+ years MLB service time to refuse that (which I think he does not have) but maybe it also depends on total time in the organization.

There's no place for Goins on this team as it's currently constructed. He needs five years of service time, so he can't refuse assignment, but he will have to clear waivers when he's sent down.

Goins won't clear waivers, several teams will claim him, especially NL teams. He is a defensive genious
