burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 If true surprised they offered that much. I think thats way too much unless the Pirates were offering salary back.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 That doesn't seem like a trade Shapiro would have made. Have my doubts about the validity of it.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Hard to believe Jays would offer that much and hard to believe that the Pirates would turn it down.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Thank God that deal wasn't made Thankfully it didn't happen, Jays would have went from a mediocre farm to the worst farm in the majors. I know Cutch has the skills to rebound but there is still a risk with him given how bad he was last year. Not to mention, JB and some other outfielders/relievers were still available to sign. That would have gutted this team dry long term, can't believe that could even be remotely accurate.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Blue Jays pushed hard for Watson before the deadline Friday. They hoped that if the Bucs were not able to make a deal with him they would look to deal him instead. Blue Jays have tried to talk a mega-deal with Pirates about Cutch and Watson. Names coming back would have been Guerrero, Reid-Foley, Biagini, Tollez, Harold Ramirez. These were the main names involved obviously nothing has gotten done. With the Jays close to signing Bautista that likely ends talks for now.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Yeah no I don't believe that offer was ever made Goes completely against this front office's current plan
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Don't believe any of it, especially the Harold Ramirez part. A FO like the Bucs probably isn't wishy washy on prospects they like or don't like. Lol the Pirates didn't give Ramirez away because they don't like him. They had to include him in order to get out from Liriano's salary.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 How seriously can we take an article from Fansided? One written by Marty McFly (!!!) to boot. http://filmgarb.com/wp-content/uploads/film-back_to_the_future_2-1989-marty_mcfly-michael_j_fox-accessories-hat.jpg
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Like that's almost the entire farm and Shapiro wants to add to it so... No
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Anyway this non story is worthy of full. Ignore
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I've never seen people so outraged at the possibility of acquiring a recent MVP. You guys need to simma down, McCutchen would be a phenomenal addition to this team for 2 years.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 And now he's one of the prospects out of the hundreds among the Cutch suitors that they'd target? Damn, we must have really bent them over in that Liriano deal if he's that valuable. Every offer for Cutch is going to include lesser pieces in addition to headliners. Ramirez is nobody's idea of a package headliner and I think that's obvious.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Personally, I find it heartening that Shatkins is looking for a way to add an impact player like McCutchen. He's a perfect fit for this team and there's a right price for him that may be achievable with our prospect capital.

Have to remember you'd have to pay for his salary too. Rather sign Bautista, pay $10M more and lose a potential pick than trade all that young talent for like an extra Win over 2 years.

I want nothing to do with him at the prices mentioned.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 boooo Pirates megadeal deserved its own thread booooo

I want nothing to do with him at the prices mentioned. That's a fair take, but I don't buy that he's in steep decline already at his age. He is playing out of position in CF, but I think his bat has a good chance to jump back up to the .380 wOBA range.
Ray Verified Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Getting Cutch for that price made especially no sense because Bautista was still on the market. Glad they didn't actually do that deal.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I'm actually finding myself shouldering my way to the front of the Pagan train. For some reason I keep forgetting he's a switch-hitter. Throw in the good defense for a smaller park and less intense position (LF in RC) + a low K-rate and some good baserunning numbers. I like it. Coincidentally, the biggest Pagan proponent back when the offseason was young was the late BBBB. edit: And this hair
Candide Verified Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 horrendous deal. if legit, thank God that didn't go through...

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I thought there were reports that Pagan's hair was in decline? The eyeball test suggests otherwise.

McCutchen is not worth half of what that article had, especially coming off the year he had, his age, contract, and defensive abilities.

The package they asked from the Nats was probably bigger. Keep in mind that Tellez probably doesn't have the value that we think (although as King pointed out...he does't have the pedigree of Vogelbach but he does many other similarities). Still SRF and Vlad was what I mentioned as comparable to some past OF trades with 2 years control. Is Tellez and Biagini only getting 1 year of Watson..I'd certainly hope not.

You couldn't possibly have compared two players more different than R.A. Dickey and Andrew McCutchen.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 You couldn't possibly have compared two players more different than R.A. Dickey and Andrew McCutchen. Probably you are right. But it was the first example that came to mind and it does show how trading for a player that has won a past award doesn't mean you will be getting that high level of play from them.
