Zero chance that happens. Sox only made the deal to get under the tax. Dombrowski is indicating no deals are imminent.

Also no way EE goes to Boston, imo. His options seem limited. If I had to put money on it, I would say Texas or Seattle

I disagree with this. DD hasn't been known to be a passive pussy.

I think Detroit is another logical landing spot for Edwin, so Ilich can try for his World Series before it's too late.

I know there currently isn't anywhere for him to play on that roster, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them to try to fit him in.

Your right but I would think getting under the tax threshold has more to do with ownership wanting to be under it then DD being a passive pussy. I may be wrong though. Just don't see it

There's a huge financial incentive to get under the threshold and reset the clock. Penalties get worse if you're over for multiple years but all it takes is a single season to reset that clock.

Nope. Avila's ordered payroll to be slashed in Detroit, so forget it. Plus, V-Mart and Cabrera are blocking his spots at 1B and DH. Plus, Detroit is too far over the tax to even think about making a move for Edwin.

Texas is tapped out, Seattle isn't realistic--Mariners need OFs and more bullpen help and can't exactly afford Edwin's deal, and really want to give Dan Vogelbach a chance to win the 1B job. Plus, Nelson Cruz is better used as a DH than a OF..

Last I saw, I thought Texas was at about $165M or something. They have 1st and DH open (with Gallo & Profar pencilled in right now).

My math was wrong. Jays opening day payroll of $165M would mark an increase of 20%, not 14%, compared to opening day 2016. Apologies.

IMO that would be like a farmer going out and buying a bunch of brand new equipment after a record year. It's a pretty short-sighted business approach. I expect a mild increase in payroll, but I don't think you drive an extra $60M into the team simply because you were success in 2 of the past 20 years.

It's not really an equal analogy, because we can always reduce payroll in subsequent years when attendance drops. We have no large contracts on the books at all.

No. But he might go out and spend a little bit more on some better seeds to try and yield a bigger better crop next year.

The idea is to have the fans buy into the system to where they show up regardless of perceived success. Dropping salary upon one unsuccessful season just destroys a fanbase (see KC). Showing fans that you can be successful as a mid pack team isn't going to pack the house, but it won't increase expectations. It's tough as I doubt the "smart fanbase" is big enough anywhere to fill a stadium. Nor do they (we) bring an energy to the park.
