G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Sign Fowler and Bautista Collect a draft pick for Edwin Dump Smoak Trade for RP
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Trade them Smoak back I can't see the Mariners taking Smoak for Seth Smith after getting Vogelbach. I think Smith has value on his own at 7 million.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2016 Author Posted December 5, 2016 The Mariners are open to trading Seth Smith. He's not the sexiest option, but projects for 1.2 WAR on a 7 million dollar salary. I don't mind him on the strong side of a platoon with Upton if we get a stronger option like Granderson in RF. A Smith Upton platoon would probably provide league average production in LF.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 A Smith Upton platoon would probably provide league average production in LF. I'd call it a success if we get that for ~8 million. The money saved might open up better opportunities in RF and the bullpen.
bronson44 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I read Odubel Herrera could be available. I could get into that.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Shi Davidi @ShiDavidi Marco Estrada, Aaron Sanchez Roberto Osuna look set to pitch for Mexico at WBC, Marcus Stroman for US. Israel interested in Kevin Pillar So basically Donaldson and Tulo are the only players not playing in the WBC lol. I'm surprised Sanchez is pitching for Mexico instead of USA.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 A Smith Upton platoon would probably provide league average production in LF. Coghlan / Upton could be interesting too.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I read Odubel Herrera could be available. I could get into that. Not to imply that he's bad, but it feels like the Phils would be selling high on him and the price wouldn't be cheap. Furthermore, why are they trying to move a player that is 25, still under team control for a few more years and has been worth roughly 4 wins for each of the past two seasons?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Would everyone be on board to sign Casillo as a setup man?
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Would everyone be on board to sign Casillo as a setup man? Santiago Casilla? nah
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2016 Author Posted December 6, 2016 Would everyone be on board to sign Casillo as a setup man? After watching him implode time after time last year, I'm inclined to say no. I hate watching that guy pitch.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Having Pearce on board makes him more appealing, but he's certainly not my top option. I would certainly be fine waking up one morning to find a new OF arrangement of Fowler-Pillar-Bruce/Upton. There's a non-zero chance of this happening too. That would make a lineup of the following (as I assume Gibby would put it together): Fowler (L) - RF Travis ® - 2B Donaldson ® - 3B Morales (S) - DH Tulo ® - SS Bruce (L) - LF Pearce ® - 1B Martin ® - C Pillar ® - CF
ChrisS Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I wish these Jay Bruce rumours would go away.

Mainly, I just really want Fowler, and want to keep all of our good prospects (instead of trading them for Eaton/etc).
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Just curious has Adam Eaton ever been in a legit trade rumour? This is the only place I hear his name. Don't understand why they would trade him unless they get blown away so I don't even understand why he would be a target. He would certainly be nice to have though!
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Well I'm pretty sure he's a confirmed target of ours and he fits pretty much everything we're looking for in an OF right now. There's no rumors out there but who knows what the White Sox are trying to do right now as it seems they're about to trade Sale. Eaton's value probably won't get any higher so I'm sure they'd listen. Of course they would listen but trading for players at peak value doesn't seem like this front offices M.O.
ILikeSoccerandBaseball09 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Idk about you guys but a lineup like this would look pretty damn nice Fowler Travis Donaldson Morales Tulo Bruce/Upton platoon Pearce Martin Pillar
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Idk about you guys but a lineup like this would look pretty damn nice Fowler Travis Donaldson Morales Tulo Bruce/Upton platoon Pearce Martin Pillar Yup, that's a solid f***ing lineup top to bottom. Better team defense than last year too.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Idk about you guys but a lineup like this would look pretty damn nice Fowler Travis Donaldson Morales Tulo Bruce/Upton platoon Pearce Martin Pillar If that was the lineup Travis better not be hitting above 7th. Certainly not the most important position in the lineup.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I could get behind a Seth Smith/Upton platoon in LF. I think that's a solid LF combo. Also, our offseason basically hinges on Fowler at this point. I don't even know what we'd do if we don't get him. Trade the farm for Eaton?

They are similarly talented, but he's on a short term deal.
Driveof85 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Does anyone remember the Oakland teams of the 2000s? I don't. I see many lean years ahead and I won't be paying to watch Pearce, Smoak and Upton and the return of "Bucky-ball". We had something special, the likes of which we hadn't seen since the 80s and 90s.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 smoak and upton were on the team last season
fireballW Verified Member Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Not an unreasonable post. People here more excited about Pearce than they would be about EE. This regime was brought in to cut cost, determined during the first half of the 2015 season. Then AAs team turned the whole outlook of the framchise around. Now we have just had a great season on the field, in attendance and in TV ratings. These shrewd moves should be exciting if they are to save money for a big acquisition. We just lost two franchise players. If you aren't going to bring in at least one stud you'd better make the playoffs or the fan base will dwindle quickly.
