Edwin would have a full NTC because of 10-5. Also looks bad trading a player so soon after signing them.

 

Maybe trading Morales after the 2017 season then? If the budget can afford it, I would do it. It gives Tellez one full year in AAA to rake before he's ready the following season.

This is really a great forum in general. Sometimes I just leave the board active on my phone and then refresh every hour or so. Much easier than sifting through Twitter news. The quick info and commentary you get here is excellent.

But in all seriousness, why Moreland? I'd swap him for Smoak if his defense is as good as people are alleging, but Smoak would need to be a throw-in in a trade or something. I'm hoping it's just a slow news day and some controversial Jays content was sorely necessary.

 

I'll always be grateful for his inability to pick that one throw, though.

Looks more like 2015 was the outlier than anything, he's been bad for most of his career. Seems that they are valuing exit velocity more than they should if they're actually considering signing him.

 

Even if you want him this would be a move you make in January, not now. The market is full of 1B/DH.

How can you justify signing Moreland and having Smoak on the same team. Honestly if there is any truth to these rumours it really make me question a lot.

 

It hurts me that there are people here looking to defend or justify such ridiculous moves instead of calling out the franchise on questionable decision making

Smoak mailed it in as soon as the paper was signed. 173/263/333, 60 wRC+ (90 PA) after the extension was announced. 234/332/413, 101 wRC+ (250 PA) before. He can eat a dump truck full of dicks

IF they actually want Moreland then it's heavily implied. Moreland is a one inch upgrade on Smoaky. It's literally his role - 1B defense and a guy who can kind of hit RHP with power.

 

Can't roster both of them IMO. Unless Smoak has a dance partner in the trade market (I can't imagine who) then he's probably toast and will be sleeping with the fishes by the end of the winter meetings.

Seems San Diego are shopping Yangervis Solarte. Maybe an option at 1B with the ability to cover 3B as well? He's a 3B by trade.

The problem is if we signed Moreland - we'd be stuck with his useless ass as well as Smoak. Two dung heaps. So we'd be spending at least $10 million a year for two pretty terrible players to cover first base. I so hope this doesn't happen.

Signing Moreland only makes sense if Smoak is traded or released. Having both on the roster would be awful.

Pearce makes a tremendous amount of sense. But that's already been mentioned a thousand times on this board. Its nice waking up to rumour that doesn't make you cringe. Moreland makes zero sense.
