glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 We need capable pen arms period. No matter what role they end up in. I agree but why does it have to be a lefty? Just get the best arms possible.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 I agree but why does it have to be a lefty? Just get the best arms possible. Why does it have to be a righty? We need at least one or two lefties, righty? Just get some decent arms in here period. Blevins appears to fit that bill. I don't understand what you're upset about.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Not to pick all the awkward delivery guys but Muren has a chance to get through to the Jays and has very little mileage on the arm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfaxrIeBXNc

TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Anthony Santander is a switch hitter who last year hit both sides equally, just turned 22. Has some pop, is said to be a decent athlete and Shatkins know him well. Jays have too many 4th OF's now and lack starters but it's worth bringing him in and letting him compete, worst case is it costs you a small amount of money and send him back.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Brasoban (maybe), Haley, Weiss. If a commenter is correct about Ziomek being available, him too. Can you DL a Rule 5 to start the season? If yes I think extended ST and Ziomek makes sense.

I don't see why not, although I suspect in his case he might be healthy enough coming into spring that you might not get away with trying. Still, you could make him the long man if need be, especially if we have 26 man rosters.

With a normal returning from surgery prospect you can keep them in extended spring training until you know they are game ready (velocity etc.) that would appear to be circumventing the rule 5 process. I suppose if you can start him on the DL and get the rehab days in the minors to see what you have though.

Blevins appears to fit that bill. I don't understand what you're upset about. That's my point. They don't need lefties just for the sake of having them. Cecil made sense because he can get both sides out. A loogy doesn't accomplish that. Targeting guys who face one batter is not a good use of resources. I'm not sure what part of that is me being upset but whatever.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Chirinos could make a good swing man.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Chirinos could make a good swing man. I'm guessing he's the first pick though. Or close to it.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Man how good will this lineup be if Edwin Comes back, now you have the balance with Morales. we can put up a lot of runs,

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 We have Liriano as a lefty and Biagini for the pen, both can pitch to multiple batters and more then one inning if needed both help the pen Greater then as the Fifth starter. We have a Trio of young arms who can fill the position as the Fifth starter or just rotate them all though the season as it goes!

I like Greene as much as anyone, but his best case scenario is having a good year and coming up in July.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 In short stints I think it can be a great learning tool and help there growth to becoming full time In the role! 8-10 starts as needed by the Trio will not hurt them or hinder the team! And improves our pen greatly too, no loup for you and me!
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 I'm not buying it BBBB, sorry.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Seriously. Why does everyone want Liriano in the pen? I thought he did a solid job in the rotation when he came over. Keep him there...unless his performance dictates that you remove him from the rotation.

He's projected at 2-3 wins in a full season of starts, and there's really nobody to replace him. He should be starting.

Yet everyone wants to stretch out a reliever who was a mediocre starter in the minors...
