Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Trade 4 Cutch I'm driving this train. This is the perfect time to buy Cutch for so many reasons.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I'm driving this train. This is the perfect time to buy Cutch for so many reasons. Pompey and Happ? Doubt that's enough though.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Colby Rasmus, anyone??
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 It's fair to say that our front office doesn't agree with the public perception of his defense. There are things to like about a bat that slugs .500+ without striking out too much. Or perhaps they'll play Morales and 1st and DH Bruce?

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 At least all 3 (of Upton Pompey and Carerra) provide speed and all can play defense though Carrera less well. None of them should be hitting leadoff though and that's what Gibby will want. Would be nice to have a true table setter at the top of the lineup.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Cutch could hit leadoff JS
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Colby Rasmus, anyone?? I've seen enough of that experiment..
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 Colby Rasmus, anyone?? Actually, he's a perfect platoon partner for Upton.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Realistically, do Pirates prob insist on Osuna or Sanchez in a deal for Cutch? (if I were them I'd want cost controlled pitching in return)
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 O come on BTS.. he's an easy out. As is Upton.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Actually, he's a perfect platoon partner for Upton. 1 year 8M? Does he say no? Did he hate it here? Edit: f*** that. We can do better.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 1 year 8M? Does he say no? Did he hate it here? Edit: f*** that. We can do better. That would be horrendous. I don't want another 30% k rate guy.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Realistically, do Pirates prob insist on Osuna or Sanchez in a deal for Cutch? (if I were them I'd want cost controlled pitching in return) Cutch is only signed for 2 seasons so if they did then there's no trade with us. Losing either Osuna or Sanchez would leave a big hole to fill for this season as well. Guess we could offer silly money to Chapman or Jansen to replace Osuna, but just can't see that happening.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 1 year 8M? Does he say no? Did he hate it here? Edit: f*** that. We can do better. He left on bad terms, because he was benched down the stretch. But I'm not sure we'll do better. Still have 1B, RF, LF empty, so I think we can assume one corner OF spot will be platoon with Upton. And I think it could actually be a very good platoon: - Upton has a career 109 wRC+ vs. LHP and 93 vs. RHP - Rasmus has a career 81 wRC+ vs. LHP and 109 vs. RHP - both are easy plus defenders in a corner spot - both are plus baserunners - the plus defense and baserunning, and the fact that both can capably defend CF, makes both ideal 4th OF candidates I bet you squeeze 3+ wins out of them combined.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Colby Rasmus, anyone?? That 87 wRC+ projection
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 The front office is all about security. If we were to splash out on an elite player it'd be to put us on another level, not move a weakness from one position to another.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Rasmus is a weird dude. He'd probably retire before he comes back to Toronto. Knowing how cheap the Pirates are, would the cost for Cutch go down if the Jays took back a bad contract? i don't think they have a really bad one, unless they don't want to pay Josh Harrison 2/18. I'm sure it would still take a big package though.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 That 87 wRC+ projection He had a growth in his inner ear that bothered him all season, and he claims it hurt his performance. I'm not sure to what extent that's true, but I think he'd be close to league average offensively if used in a strict platoon. Even if he's at a 90-95 wRC+, he's probably about average in LF.

The list of excuses used by Colby Rasmus grows! He is inconsistent because he is a high strikeout, extreme FB hitter. His BABIP has oscillated between .250 and .350 in various full seasons. For whatever random reason his defense has also gone up and down in a similar way. You're not looking for a 100 wRC+ from a strict platoon player though. You want a lot better than that. He only faced LHP in 22% of his PA this year which is fairly low (strict platoon guys get like 11% and non-platoon see over 30%). I would pay him 1/$8 but he would be one of my last choices. There is merit though. High variance player means possible upside on a small deal like that. But I think it's a moot point. Rasmus is probably rock hard at the thought of putting down roots in Trump's new America. #MAGA
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I will puke seeing Rasmus & Smoak back to back against RHP. We will lead league in strikeouts again.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I would love to see them go after Neil Walker for LF and backup 2b/1b. That's a real nice bat, and a nice fit. Should be semi expensive though... cough Rogers.

If upton is 93 vs rhp, does necessarily need a platoon partner is he provides plus base running and defense?
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 If upton is 93 vs rhp, does necessarily need a platoon partner is he provides plus base running and defense? He projects to be muuuuuch worse than 93 wRC+ vs RHP going forward. That's his career mark, not his talent! BTS is just illustrating the size of their career splits.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Do Carrera and Pompey both still have options? http://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-toronto-blue-jays/
