BTS Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2016 Author Posted November 14, 2016 I believe he's still on the 40-man though and can be controlled as arb-eligible. Not sure what the transaction represents. I mean, he'll be non-tendered either way so it doesn't really matter. It's just weird to see a mistake on the team's transaction page. Usually it's reliable.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 They're pretty stacked rn Is Royal York, North York?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Is Royal York, North York? Royal York would be considered Etobicoke I believe
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Is Royal York, North York? Nah Royal York is in dead centre Etobicoke it's one street over from Islington
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 They're pretty stacked rn Midget? I heard they won provincials. Must be AA though. I just joined the board for a 2018 Midget Elite Team. To the original comment, I think Votto actually played most of his Rep ball with Etobicoke Rangers, after starting with Royal York.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Is today the deadline to accept and/or reject qualifying offer
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Is today the deadline to accept and/or reject qualifying offer Yeah 5pm Eastern. Think that of the ten who've received a qualifying offer, none will accept, especially with the relatively weak free agent market: Jose Bautista, Toronto Blue Jays Yoenis Cespedes, New York Mets Ian Desmond, Texas Rangers Edwin Encarnación, Toronto Blue Jays Dexter Fowler, Chicago Cubs Jeremy Hellickson, Philadelphia Phillies Kenley Jansen, Los Angeles Dodgers Mark Trumbo, Baltimore Orioles Justin Turner, Los Angeles Dodgers Neil Walker, New York Mets

Discuss....

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Fowler had officially rejected his QO as expected
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Almost everyone rejecting the QO as exoected:
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Hellickson maybe? Maybe no one takes it this year

OBA Elite has a cap which is lower than that (but is new and hasn't had success yet). Elite ball has become almost as stupid as hockey, if you are on OBJ's 3rd team...you are not elite and just spent $15K because you want to live vicariously through your kid.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Hellickson accepted it. Good move by him

Yeah I know a few people who played in the league and it was crazy expensive. Even if you are able to get a scholarship it doesn't make it really worth it. Meanwhile basketball players barely pay anything and the good ones even get scholarships for Prep School.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Hellickson accepted it. Good move by him Thought he'd back himself to get a long term contract. It's hard to turn down $17m though, slightly more than his total career earnings.

He probably expects to he traded during the 2017 season and knows he then will be free of draft pick compensation next time

But then this season there's no notable free agent SP, next year there's potentially Arrieta, Darvish, Cueto and others. Either way he's got to be happy with how it's worked out for him, worst case he's still set for life!

I'm sure this is the case with some - but for me, it's about giving my kids opportunities. I acknowledge and accept there a very small chance my kids ever play beyond say a university level - but if they fall in love with a sport and show a desire to get better and push themselves - I won't hold them back (unless I ultimately can't from a financial perspective). There are simply too many positive life lessons you learn from rep sports. Kids internally pushing themselves, practicing to get better, hard work, teamwork and the ultimate reward to winning when you put in the hard work is something you carry for life. There are also lessons learned when cut from the team - or from losing the big game. This new thinking that simply participating is all you need to do is utter nonsense IMO.

That's a good point too Calculated risk on his part either way Like you said, 17.2M is a pretty good payday even if his arm fell off and he never got another multi year deal
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 So we have two positional holes, two RPs, and ~$32m to spend? That's enough room for like Reddick, Pearce, and idk, Hoch/Blanton/Blevins/Smith/Ramirez/Henderson choose 2? Also: s***** process but good idea as to why Corbin might be a good target out of the pen http://toronto.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2016/11/10/patrick-corbin-potential-andrew-miller-clone-and-blue-jays-target/?utm_content=buffer405dc&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer Just curious where that # came from and what that would put us at? 160?
