glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Dexter Fowler is not Mike Trout. Jesus. In other words you have no answer. Jays should sign Chapman and make him a long reliever/spot starter. As long as he gets paid he won't care.
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 We're not talking about CF to 1B here. It's frigging CF to RF. In other words you have no answer. Jays should sign Chapman and make him a long reliever/spot starter. As long as he gets paid he won't care. ....
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 It doesn't matter if RF and CF are both in the OF. If Fowler has played CF his entire career and has other teams willing to play him in CF, then what incentive does he have to sign with the Jays unless they overpay him? These guys aren't f***ing robots. You won't find many FA's, at least good ones, who change positions upon signing with a new team (except for ancient hitters who DH to extend their careers).

Governator Community Moderator Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 He already looked like a body builder when he was a s*** player in North America though. I'm not saying he's clean but the he got jacked and started killing the KBO narrative doesn't work. It's not only is it lazy but it doesn't even line up with what we know about the player. Yes, he was jacked beforehand and of course I don't know if he's on roids or not... but when you reach such highs, looking like John Cena only adds to the skepticism. I'm not trying to suggest KBO is anywhere near the quality of talent as MLB but they put so much emphasis on entertainment it would not surprise me if they'd protect him in the event he was.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Hanley? There's one, although was any team willing to keep him at short? Dude was awful defensively. Fowler actually graded out positively on defence the past two seasons surprisingly.

It took several scandals and a congressional hearing for MLB to give a s*** about PEDs so I don't think it's a stretch to think that it's less of a concern in the KBO (or any foreign league really). That being said, I'm not convinced that you really need to go to a foreign league to get away with PED use. Sometimes the testing catches up to the users briefly like we saw with dehydrochlormethyltestosterone.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Ian Desmond went from full time SS to full time CF.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Glory's point is right. Dexter Fowler won't come to Toronto to play a corner spot unless they're the highest bidder. Are there really people who don't think that's true?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Well, Desmond signed a one year deal because no team wanted to lose a pick for him, so he didn't have the options that Fowler has, but I'll give you that. I guess my point is, unless the player is on board, it's pointless to say "well he just has to shift over". Some players may not mind, while others might. It's not as simple as "he's not Mike Trout, Jesus, so he will do what we say, dammit!". Fowler has options and can find a job playing his natural position. Unless the Jays overpay him, I think it's fair to say he'd value the CF jobs more than the LF/RF jobs.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 lets just solve it and trade Pillar
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 dexter fowler won't come to toronto unless they're the highest bidder. ftfy
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 ftfy Well that's true too. But to discount glory's point just isn't accurate.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Beltran does not want to play in Toronto How many times are we going to discuss that. He has rejectes us on so many free agencies

Are there really people who don't think that's true? I dunno, it takes a special breed of moron to insist on playing over this years probable gg winner pillar. That would be jeterish whom many could be forgiven for believing pastadiving was his first name after hearing the broadcast constantly say that balls got pastadiving jeter

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I cant wait for the offseason to start. Holy crap, this stretch is awful, but I never realized how awful. I wonder if someone in Rogers had a discussion with Shapiro along the lines of we need to keep the TV ratings coming. I mean 1 million a night numbers for 162 nights plus playoffs. Regardless of the FMV of rights, no one is going to want to go back to 300-400K days. Pressure is coming,
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 If extra salary is gonna be available, do you guys think it would be worth taking on some potentially bad money like James Shields and David Robertson if it meant getting Adam Eaton for a lesser package. Melky could be another guy they would would want to unload.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Anyone remember when Curtis Granderson pushed Brett Gardner to LF?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 It would be nice to get some sort of sense of what Rogers is willing to spend on payroll. The discussion around what the club should do will change in many people's eyes if projected payroll is around 140, 150, 160 or 170. I hope the Blue Jays raise payroll parameters, but I'm not convinced they will.

I would expect probably 160M, but it would be nice if that was a little flexible for the right fits.

Based on 2016 that would put them between 147 million and 167 million.

You would think they should now by now given FA is getting close.
