SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 According to Sportsnet, the showdown between Toronto and Baltimore was their most watched program in 2016, with an average audience of 4.02 million viewers. Overall more than 9 million Canadians watched some part of the broadcast with the audience peaking at the bottom of the ninth inning with none out. After the game was done, an average audience of 1.04 million viewers watched Sportsnet Central’s hour-long post-game coverage, the most-watched Sportsnet Central this year. Rogers Broadcasting says it was also Sportsnet’s fifth-most watched broadcast of all time. http://www.660news.com/2016/10/05/sportsnet-reporting-big-ratings-win-blue-jays-wild-card-game/
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Real incentive for Rogers to win Compare that to the miniscule world cup of hockey numbers and how much Rogers spent on Hockey Make bluejays great again!!
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 Jays also averaged over 1 million viewers per game over the course of the regular season. Jays officially finished first in AL attendance and 3rd in the majors. Not a bad year for Rogers.
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 That's cool and all but these sort of posts belong in General Blue Jays Thread. We'll all still see it, I promise. That said, it doesn't surprise me. A do or die game and the city/country was buzzing for a couple of days to hype it.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 4 MILLON???? WOW that's INSANE! What I'm more interested in is the SN #s for Tomorrow's 1pm game
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Does anyone have the raptors and leafs playoff numbers
AdamLindsMom Verified Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Almost time to go hunting for FA's in the bargain bin again.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Does anyone have the raptors and leafs playoff numbers This was the 5th most in Sportsnet history in terms of ratings, #1 was ALCS game 5 at 5.12 million viewers and you'd think that ALDS game 5 was somewhere inbetween as well. I'd guess 3 of the top 5 are the Jays.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I've heard of sponsorship dollars being worth as much $2 per hour per view. That wild card broadcast alone is worth at least $15 Mil And Rogers have used much higher numbers to justify NHL bids We should be the f***ing dodgers
SweetSmellingChacin Verified Member Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 Does anyone have the raptors and leafs playoff numbers The Raps were just below 2 million against the Cavs. The Leafs/Bruins playoff a few years ago was around 4 million near the end of the series.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Conservatively speaking one playoff series adds at least 30-50 Mil to Rogers media bottom line
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 And how is Rogers not trying to add a franchise in Vancouver?

On the topic, I am not surprised that this met Game 5 DS numbers. Hopefully this will translate for next years payroll.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Are you sure you want to go to red alert it does mean changing the bulb #insiderjokeforreddwarffans
youngtea Verified Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 The real question is how much money did the advertisers pay for their ad spots, not how many people watched. Unfortunately American advertisers pay a larger sum than their Canadian counterparts.

I'm also not sure if MLB gets a portion of that revenue or not in the playoffs. As for attendance, we only get 50% of the gate I believe, and 25%? in the first few games of the next round. If it goes 4 or 5 games, then we get the full amount for those games I think.
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 And how is Rogers not trying to add a franchise in Vancouver? They're smart with their money, look at Shomi that s*** is shutting down even though people were using it but it is still getting shutdown next month, Rogers isn't just printing money. If you get paid $2000 every 2 weeks who are we to tell you that you have to spend $1800 of it, do as you wish with your money.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 And how is Rogers not trying to add a franchise in Vancouver? They wouldn't be allowed to own two teams (obviously).
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 lol @ teams signing billion dollar TV deals with 100K viewers a night while we do like 10 million. Now if only Rogers paid the Blue Jays fair market value for their tv deal... must be nice to have an MLB-condoned monopoly.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 $200M payroll plz Not a chance
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Not a chance There is absolutely zero reason why the Boston Red Sox should have a significantly larger payroll than the Jays. We had better attendance and a much, MUCH larger market both locally and nationally.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 $200M payroll plz Yes please, and giving that type of money to Shapiro would be like giving Stephen Hawking super powers.
flafson Verified Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 There is absolutely zero reason why the Boston Red Sox should have a significantly larger payroll than the Jays. We had better attendance and a much, MUCH larger market both locally and nationally. There are many reasons, obviously most of them don't make sense to you and me but they have plenty of reasons.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Regardless, I think the days of payroll crunch are over. Rogers is a greedy corporation. There will be payroll support now, but there will also be pressure to win.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 There are many reasons, obviously most of them don't make sense to you and me but they have plenty of reasons. There's only one reason. One team has an ownership that prioritizes winning a World Series, and one team has an ownership that would like to win a World Series, but prioritizes profits and shareholders. That's what happens when your owner is a conglomerate and not a rich baseball fan. As far as actual revenue is concerned, the Jays are right there with the Red Sox over the last two years and possibly even higher.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I think however that Shapiro is a smart guy who probably negotiated a payroll increase proportionate to attendance/revenue increase when he took the job. IMO he wouldn't have left the team he built in Cleveland unless he knew there was a chance to operate a team with a top tier payroll. I hope I am right.
