Anyone with a brain knows that spending big money on old free agents is dumb, in the long term anyway. However, short term the signings could give them another kick at the can. But it's very unlikely an older team would fare any better next year. So IMO, if they're not good enough to win it this year the same core won't be nearly good enough next year.

There was a point in time where that wasn't so ridiculous, but a strong finish and playoff performance has put that idea to bed. I'd still be open to re-signing both, but no more than 3 years for Bautista, and the AAV has to be right.
