Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 It's getting there fast. We're in the midst of an implosion. In all seriousness it would be quite interesting to know if there is a bit of crowd wisdom in calling the implosion. I believe Jon called it one week ago... becoming more and more obvious now. Maybe the fans pick up on things, like 1. No Blue Jays starter has ever pitched 200 innings 2. Blue Jays are relatively old 3. Donaldson stops hitting 4. West Coast trip followed by Yankees/Os/Red Sox to end season Does the AI know these things when calculating play off odds?? Or is the "crowd" wise to them and playoff odds are even less than what is reported? Crowd is panicking because the crowd is still a better AI than the AI??

Crowd see's Donaldson stop hitting, and notices slight cues... they realize he is injured before it becomes public. Crowd is ensemble AI??

Crowd is ensemble AI?? I would assume that at least 2/3rds of the so called 41k at the game today only look to the standings to gauge the Jays playoff lives.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 The implosion is real. I told you prophet Shea was right You didn't believe me "The ship is sinking. Play for yourself. Play for your contract" And yet Gibbons defaced him. Forgive us prophet

Play for your contract" And yet Gibbons defaced him. Forgive us prophet Shea has nothing to do with this. It is not like there is a curse or anything. 1. It is fluke and bad luck and mini-slumps that are just random... implosion will end... or it could continue. Situation is stochastic. 2. There are reasons behind implosion mostly due to age and injury and fatigue (both disclosed and undisclosed) if so, Implosion may continue (deterministic).

It's the Curse of Caleb, On that cold October night, game 6 of the ALCS, Caleb Humphreys caught the home run ball to end the Jays world series hopes and doom this team for forever more, http://images.performgroup.com/di/library/sporting_news/64/0/royals-fan-102315-getty-ftrjpg_10pmn0uxz3rp81bx8bp5f5zj5x.jpg?t=-1757365088 Caleb was mocked endlessly by Jays fans across Canada, but now he will have the last laugh.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 I am getting really distracted now looking for old highlights... here is Buck Martinez from 1987 if you want to see young Buck -- this isn't the point where it reached implosion, it is from a couple of weeks before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI7lxXhssRo

I think we're well past the point of the implosion being a "fluke" or "bad luck" - as much as this board loves to write off anything bad that happens to the Jays as those things. This is pretty much the same team that was hovering around .500 in May and was third place in the division at the All-Star Break. We added a few pieces at the deadline, not that it helped much. Like early on in the 2014 season, lots of fans were tricked by a brief run to first place only to be slapped down back to reality. This team just wasn't good enough, and certainly not worth trading our whole farm system for.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 It's not bad luck. The Jays are getting killed in the last 12 games. Run differential is s***. Wins are 1 run wins where Pillar has to track a ball at the warning track to save the game. I don't know what happened between the end of August and now, but this team is not making the playoffs if they don't turn this around quickly. There are just too many teams around them to slump this badly. Injuries and age might be a factor. When your best players are in their 30's with a ton of mileage on them, it's not going to be easy to last a whole season.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 pitching overachieved but has come back to earth.... that's all
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 pitching overachieved but has come back to earth.... that's all And the offence overachieved last year. Too bad they couldn't both overachieve at the same time long enough to get us a championship.

One come from behind win and two one-run games.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Even with the implosion, neither the Yankees or the Tigers are showing any signs of any effort to catch the Jays--Yanks have already lost, and the Tigers are trailing badly... to the f****ing Twins! Only team that's a serious threat is Seattle...
Governator Community Moderator Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 pitching overachieved but has come back to earth.... that's all I don't think that's really all. It's a big part of it but this team was built around its offense that is one of the worst in the league this month.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Good news with the Yankees losing and the Twins currently beating the Tigers.
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 No, Gibby this is not rock bottom. Rock bottom is having your rotation being Doc surround by 4 guys we randomly grabbed hanging around Union Station and having Josh Phelps as your DH. Clearly you weren't around back then... oh, wait, you were.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Nope. It doesn't really matter. Seattle, Tigers and Yankees are chasing us during implosion... there is a 1/8 chance they all lose on a given night... they all gradually catch up and pass us... even if at a random moment it's like .... hey silver lining the Tigers won't make up a game tonight.
jiminy Verified Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 For them to sit Donaldson now with all winter to heal and the most important time of the year. Tells me one thing. What he has is a very serious injury

What he has is a very serious injury I think they want to see based on the MRI results that if he continues to play, can it do further damage which could end up more serious or is it just playing through pain.
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 feels like the jays have been pretty fortunate in getting help..now if they can ever start winning some games
