Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Feel free to post your ideal lineup statistically or one that is somewhat realistic given traditional lineup roles and how far Gibby is willing to go.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 2B Travis 3B Donaldson RF Bautista 1B Encarnacion C Martin SS Tulowitski DH Saunders LF Upton CF Pillar With Bautista healed of course, until then he's DHing. Then you can rotate Bautista, Edwin and Saunders in the DH role. Also when rosters expand and our offence is hitting on all cylinders I don't mind putting Kratz to catch and DH Martin while we platoon Upton and Saunders in left to keep him fresh and not tail off like last year's post season
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Travis Donaldson Edwin Tulo Martin Bautista Saunders Pillar Upton
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 I'd probably just go with something like the following. Since Martin is so hot I'd maybe consider him 6th. 1. DH- Bautista 2. 3B- Donaldson 3. LF- Saunders (L) 4. 1B- Encarnacion 5. SS- Tulowitzki 6. 2B- Travis 7. C- Martin 8. CF- Pillar 9. RF- Upton
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 Does Upton in RF over Saunders make sense? Upton has played a lot more LF in his career and Saunders more in RF. The Book would say Upton in RF but I don't know how much familiarity between the corner OF spots plays a role. I remember I played RF almost exclusively and I hated LF whenever I had to play there, for whatever little that is worth.

I prefer s***** hitters near the bottom. ROOGY'S aren't really a thing.

devo Verified Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 That's a pretty good lineup and I like 5-6-7 being fluid. I agree, so with Martin and Tulo being the hot bats currently I would have them both above Saunders. Wherever you bat Saunders he is going to be breaking up the righty bats with 8 of them in the lineup.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Travis Donaldson Bautista EE Tulo Saunders Martin Upton Jr. Pillar Like others have said, 5-6-7 obviously have a lot of flexibility.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Bautista Donaldson Travis EE Tulo Martin Saunders Pillar Smoak/Upton Like Travis hitting 3rd since he hits for a high average while Bautista walks a lot so he'd fit nice at leadoff.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 So you're suggesting Saunders is a s***** hitter, right? 2nd half he's like a 74 wRC+ hopefully it's just a slump but I wouldn't hold your breath
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 2nd half he's like a 74 wRC+ hopefully it's just a slump but I wouldn't hold your breath You did the split way wrong. This is misleading Martin has been hitting like a stud since June. April - 6 wRC+ May - 68 wRC+ June - 131 wRC+ July - 137 wRC+ August - 185 wRC+ I think Michael will be fine.
King Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 2nd half he's like a 74 wRC+ hopefully it's just a slump but I wouldn't hold your breath He's not that bad but he's also not as good as he was near the start of the season.

KevinGregg Verified Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Travis Donaldson Bautista Edwin Tulo Martin Saunders Upton Pillar Really any lineup without Goins, Smoak or Carrera would be lovely Thanks for this - I feel like this is the obvious optimal lineup. It basically writes itself. best hitter #2, best power hitter #4, best contact hitter #1, good power in 3 and 5 spots, 6-9 in decreasing order. MAYBE you could flip Saunders and Upton to give Upton more of a chance to run before the big guys get up
ChrisS Verified Member Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Everyone hates his K% but there is value using him vs RHP as a league average bat at worst over our team's weakest bat against righties. Upton has been a bit better at the plate recently and had 2 homers last weekend vs RHP in Cleveland. IMO the marginal upgrade at the plate Smoak brings is negated by the fact Upton has speed and he has none. Putting Smoak DH also means putting both Saunders and Bautista in the outfield. 2B Travis RF Bautista 3B Donaldson 1B EE C Martin SS Tulo DH Saunders LF Upton CF Pillar
