WTF does Tony Batista have to do with this?

I hate autocorrect. You think it would pick up on stuff after you type it 1000 times.

Were on the verge of having the best attendance in 25 years, leading the AL in attendance, and you guys are okay with the trading the face of the Franchise.

Shartkins is considering trading Donaldson?!

Posted
He might not even be in the top 10 if you go by WAR...

Sure he is... I'd say Donaldson is the only player clearly ahead of him. EE, Saunders and maybe Pillar are all around the same but EE would be the only player I'd take ahead of him at the moment.

On the pitching side Sanchez, Happ, Estrada and even Stroman have been pretty damn good but for a single season I'd still take Bautista.

No one is talking about trading Donaldson

As in both? Nothing to think about, that's an easy yes.

Well maybe not both. One or the other +. A deal that Washington won't accept, more then likely so it's moot

speaking of the Nats - what is wrong with Bryce? wRC+ of 116. Wilson Ramos with more WAR.

Also - is Anthony Rendon going to start hitting again? wRC+ of about 100 over his past 760 PA's. He's a superstar if he get his wRC+ back up to 125-135 (which the minor league numbers suggest he should).

Ben Revere has a -0.6 WAR on the year FWIW.

On a strict WAR/game basis at this moment he'd be outside the top 10. 13th or 14th most valuable to be exact, depending on how you rank Osuna. It all depends what he does going forward, he could go on a tear and be our MVP in the 2nd half, or he could keep doing what he's been doing this year, maybe age is catching up to him a little.

That's a hard no.

You ask a random fan of the bluejays or baseball fan in general to name a player on the Jays, it's going to be Bautista.

The face of the team doesn't mean their best player.

To be fair the last couple years there might have been a lot of fans say Muni.

lol welp you understand my point at least. It was originally brought up that you don't trade one of your premier hitters for prospects during a playoff run, especially when he's the big name that your paying fan base associates the team with.

I agree with you on that for sure just wanted to create a little seed of WTF. Because a lot of casuals would likely say Kawasaki and he should not be the face of anything Blue Jays.

My feeling is that Bautista is most definitely the "face of the franchise". Bats is a 6 time all-star as a Jay, broke out and made his name as a Jay and put us on the front page of ESPN while leading the league in homeruns. Even while JD was winning his MVP last year Bautista had arguably the most famous moment in baseball with the bat flip that every baseball fan watched and relived on highlights all offseason. Every baseball fan thinks Bautista represents the Jays more than any other player and media probably cares what he has to say more than any other player.

I suspect most bandwagon/causal fans would say Donaldson as often as they would Bautista. Winning the MVP will do that. New topic - who gives a F about the casual fan. Marketing people might, but the day the FO gives 2 shits about what the casual fan (who complains the referee is s***) is the day they should resign.

I hope not because Jose is a massive POS. His antics are often cringe worthy (like his defense).

It's true, and yes a lot of fans thinks Jays are a team of douchebags because of him.

So what's the difference if he leaves now or in 2.5 months?

What have you done for me lately?

I don't personally give a s*** if he stays or goes, I'm just pointing out that as long as he's a Jay he will be seen as the face of our franchise.

Exactly. He's not worth $25M+ per season anymore. It's unfortunate, but he's not. His ego tells him he is, but he isn't.

I don't give a s*** about what Bautista has to say and would put him 6th in terms of the Face of the Franchise. Donaldson, Stroman, Sanchez, Pillar, and imo Travis are well ahead of Bautista in terms of the Face of the Franchise. Edwin is even equal or higher. Bautista does not represent our team or fans well on the field. It's a new Era beginning and Bautista is on his way out. Might as well get something for him before he goes.

until this debate - I guess I never though of the "face of the franchise" simply as the player who the bandwagon/casual fans thinks of when they think of the team (not entirely sure what I thought it was). I hope he helps us win this year, but personally, I can't wait until he's gone. Not sure I've ever hated a star player on the Jays more than Jose. He's like an angry 8 year old stuck in a mans body.

Are we talking "face of the franchise" or just your favourite players? Without getting into the rest, there's no argument to be made for putting guys like Pillar and Travis in that conversation.

Posted
Also who cares if or who is the face of the franchise? If there's a deal to be made to make this team better you do it. Face of the franchise be damned.

LMFAO

Your not intouch with the fan base. Your in touch with the die hards on this forum. There is a difference. 99% of the revenue comes from fans who dont think like you do.

By the way, Cleveland has a dead fanbase, and most Indians fans will tell you it was murdered by Shapiro.

They are dead last in attendance even this year. The Indians used to have one of the greatest followings in professional sports.
