Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Who wants to bet Gibby bats him somewhere in the 1-5 spots in the lineup?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 You're illiterate. Brush up on your reading skills. That was my first post and I said it before we knew the prospect or $. You edited this post as well. You're up too some sneaky s***.
Bojangles Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Sorry, that gif was already used in this thread. lol it was by me. Finally learned how to embed the gif.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 You edited this post as well. You're up too some sneaky s***. If you can't spell "to" properly, no wonder you can't read a poster's name.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Who wants to bet Gibby bats him somewhere in the 1-5 spots in the lineup? He won't anywhere from 6-9 will never be a problem.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Vs lefties tho right and vs righties we're rolling Smoak? That's the consensus on here? I don't know. His defensive upgrade over Saunders or Bautista might be worth keeping him in the lineup over Smoak and batting him 8th or 9th
Statman Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Shartkins killed this trade! I hope they're sitting in the hot tub in Shartkins office right now drinking champagne and smoking a cigar while giving each other awkward smiles because they've never seen each other naked until now. He really did. I am impressed with this one.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I'd still play Mupton over Smoak, I'd just bat him 9th vs RHP. Is Upton's defensive advantage over Bautista/Saunders greater than Smoak's offensive advantage over Upton? It might actually be.
crmr Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Great deal. Upton was worth $12 mil last year and another $12 this year. At a 1.5 year deal for $5 mil that's probably one of the best contracts in baseball. Really liking this for them
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 If you can't spell "to" properly, no wonder you can't read a poster's name. You're now getting extremely defensive. Signs of more lies.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Is Upton's defensive advantage over Bautista/Saunders greater than Smoak's offensive advantage over Upton? It might actually be. Does Smoak genuinely have an offensive advantage over Upton?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Does Smoak genuinely have an offensive advantage over Upton? Vs. right handers I would say he clearly does. Vs. lefties Upton is better offensively.
Statman Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Is Upton's defensive advantage over Bautista/Saunders greater than Smoak's offensive advantage over Upton? It might actually be. Probably, especially when you add in BJ's speed on the base paths.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 http://i.giphy.com/RzFvuuV4zBhF6.gif A third time just doesn't have the same effect.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Is Upton's defensive advantage over Bautista/Saunders greater than Smoak's offensive advantage over Upton? It might actually be. Those splits don't mean much, and Saunders and Bautista are brutal defensively.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 A third time just doesn't have the same effect. Shut up, Jonn.
Bojangles Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Shut up, Jonn. How about a 4th? http://i.giphy.com/RzFvuuV4zBhF6.gif
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Shut up, Jonn. Suck a truckload of dicks.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Career splits Upton 110 wRC+ vs LHP, 95 vs RHP Smoak 101 wRC+ vs RHP, 85 vs LHP 6 point career wRC+ gap on that platoon... meh. Keeping Bautista out of the outfield is far more meaningful IMO.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I like this gif better. To to tooo to 2 to tooo choo choo
nmrch Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Doubling down here might not be the correct play. You're right, i should be falling in line. The facts after all are so obvious and not at litigable. We acquired a bench player that is projected to give you maybe a couple of million in extra value in exchange for a prospect. If he plays 200 games that's about 1.1 WAR according to the projections. Is there excess value that would make it worth trading Rodriguez? Maybe, but i think people are missing the point. This is a good example of fans getting so caught up in the details that they're not seeing the big picture. And that is, like the Smoak extension, once again Shapiro and Atkins went out of their for a fringe guy with no upside and actually invested resources on them. Why is that supposed to make me feel good? Smoak and Upton are trash, these are not the type of player you give up anything for and you definitely don't give them contracts or trade them.
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Wasn't sure where Upton would play, but at this value, it's a great deal. Think this means someone gets dealt in an effort to shore up pitching- possibly Pillar.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Also, I love how Jonah Keri goes out of his way during every interview to tear apart the myth of Bautista's defensive adequacy. Dropping truthbombs all over. At least someone has the sack to say it on the air.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Can a mod ban jonn please? Thx. Mods can't be trusted right now.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Sorry... we're only paying $5M for this year and next? How is that even possible? And how did someone else not outbid that??
