Maahfaace Verified Member Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Melvin Upton could actually be a really nice fit. Anyone who changes their name from BJ to Melvin won't fit in anywhere
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 How? He's been replacement level 3 years running. The past two years, he actually posted -10 and -8 offensive WAR. Could be a great DH for next year. If they plan on letting Edwin and Jose walk.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Jays will trade for no one of consequence IMO. I don't think so either, just like to spin the hamster wheel that is what's left of my brain
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Keep looking at Colorado's outfield and wondering Gonzalez is expensive Blackmon is locked up but both are 30 Plus side they both are LH hitters And Colorado is cheap! Would you move Pillar, Pompey, Sean Reid Foley, for starters and see what else it may take??? Let us not forget how we got to the SRF trade it started with my original trade. Plus my outfielders are not just rentals but are under contract next year as well. Both can hit and have some pop and hit LH too! Plus look and think about this lineup RH 1.Batz LH 2. Saunders RH 3. Donalson LH 4 Gonzalez RH 5 E.E LH 6 Blackmon RH 7 Tulo RH 8 Martin RH 9 Travis How Sexxy is that!!!
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Could be a great DH for next year. If they plan on letting Edwin and Jose walk. He's been a negative "offensive" talent the past 2 years before this one and the peripherals suck. I don't see how he'd be a good DH?

I don't see how he'd be a good DH? Bruce was a great hitter 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and now his numbers are back this year. He's a butcher with the glove but he would be a good DH for 13million. A good lefty bat to break up the RHH.

May be better off just trying to trade for Gonzalez.

They get two young controllable outfielders for two 30 year olds plus save about 22-23 mill on payroll next year. The also are though free agency going to lose 3-4 pitchers this and next year and will need replacements for them.
sawyerford Verified Member Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 When is the trade deadline? And do you think there will be many trades during the break?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 When is the trade deadline? And do you think there will be many trades during the break? July 31st and probably not.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 July 31st and probably not. Yeah, for the most part, clubs don't like disrupting players families and their vacations.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Jays will trade for no one of consequence IMO. Yep. Shapkins won't be trading any prospects. Well, any real prospects. I'd expect moves in the same vein as the Grilli trade.

There are going to be a lot of middle tier guys that the previous regime liked and they don't. I could see a guy outside of our top 5 like Borucki getting moved.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Would anyone trade Aaron Sanchez for Sonny Grey straight up?
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Would anyone trade Aaron Sanchez for Sonny Grey straight up? No!
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Would anyone trade Aaron Sanchez for Sonny Grey straight up? That's dumn. I wouldn't be averse to trading high on Sanchez for a haul in the offseason, though.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 You're willing to trade Cy young winner and World Series MVP? For the right return, yes. Sanchez will be good for a few seasons, but durability and effectiveness after losing FB velocity is questionable. He lives and dies with the FB, at least right now.

His curveball is becoming great and as he ages you can expect better command of the fastball. Assuming the better command with age he wouldnt need to maintain the velocity because the movement of the fastball would still work great with better command than he has now. ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Prior to last year, the Blue Jays had not made major trades at the deadline for a long time. And the circumstances last year involved a team that hadn't made the playoffs since '93, a team prez who knew the team's owner was actively looking to replace him and who had run his mouth about making the playoffs and a GM with no contract beyond the end of the season. Team was also much better than its record indicated. This team doesn't have many holes that it needs to address so there isn't even a need to make any major acquisitions. Despite what others think, this franchise is in good shape. It has great attendance, great ratings, both worthy of one of the best teams in MLB which is what they are. Yes, Bautista and EE are FA to be but they'll either re-sign 1/2 of them or take the picks and look elsewhere to replace them since they would have $$ to spend. No, the sky isn't falling and the franchise wasn't crippled by the trades that were made since 2012 to try and contend as soon as possible. Anyway...
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Sanchez will be good for a few seasons, but durability and effectiveness after losing FB velocity is questionable. w. Lol He is 23. You talk as if he was 40
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 The Tigers falling out would be really good for us. Krod for one is the kind of guy who would be very good for us. The Whitesox are also falling off, so Zach Duke would be an amazing pickup These are the kind of pieces we need to complete the bullpen.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Jeremy Jeffress is available, per Cotillo: Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 2m2 minutes ago Source: Marlins heavily pursued Brewers closer Jeremy Jeffress before acquiring Fernando Rodney. Jeffress is very much available.
sawyerford Verified Member Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 We need a starter, Sanchez will go to the pen eventually and Hutch won't cut it. Yes we do have a big hole we need to address which is the bullpen, we need a reliever.
sawyerford Verified Member Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Would be nice to jump on him. Wonder how much he would cost?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Wonder if Matt Joyce could be a low cost target. He's an upgrade over Smoak.
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 When is the trade deadline? And do you think there will be many trades during the break? The deadline is actually moved to August 1 this year for some reason, it will be back to July 31 next year
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 McCutchen is also available. Marte CF, Polanco-Bell in the corners.
