Realistically speaking

Do we have any prospects that a team selling a huge asset wants

We don't need huge assets. We can provide salary relief of an overpaid player for a selling team as that would require less prospects. We have money but no prospect this would be our best way to move I think

The Jays were among the teams scouting Sonny Gray on Weds, according to a report.

This, I like. 3.5 years of team control. Would give up pretty much any 2-3 farm guys for him.

I'd like to get hold of Matt Andriese. Seems pretty good, and the Rays don''t seem to give two shits about him.

Maybe they could trade him to us cheap, given that they''re out of it anyways.

That would be a sick addition.

Is there a consensus on what's been wrong with Gray this year?

His FIP is over a full unit higher than his norm.

Just an off year or something wrong with his arm/stuff

This is probably the best time to buy on him, his price has got to be depressed.

Well that's just it. If.youre convinced he's not got something wrong. Seems like.an ideal buy low candidate if Beane sees it that way.

Gray would be a good pick up but the Jays system is kinda weak at the moment, especially with Alford and Greene having poor seasons so far.

His stuff hasn't changed but his command has been lacking. Too many meatballs and walks. Maybe a mechanical issue, although he did have a DL stint. Looking at his line, seems he's been unlucky with HR/FB, LOB, and BABIPed a bit. He's not a sub-3 ERA guy, but he's much better than his current ERA.

I would expect all of our AL East rivals save Tampa to be in on Gray too

Cashman would love to add a guy like that for the next 3 years

Red Sox and Orioles are desperate for SP now

His velocity hasn't changed. The biggest issue I can see is that he isn't throwing his off-speed stuff for strikes as much. Who knows if it's mechanical, injury related, or between the ears / catcher / pitching coach. I suspect teams are laying off those pitches more, and keying in on his fastball.

His zone% on the curve has gone from 45.4, 42.5, 49.0, to 35.6.

His zone% on the slider has gone from 48.6, 48.9, 33.9, to 22.5.

Call up Papa Buehrle and see where his head (and arm) is at. Miss that guy.

It would be worth the phone call to see.

Really though, our best option (unless we were getting someone like Gray) would likely be to just keep Hutch in the rotation and roll with 6 guys. Dickey is almost 42. We want to limit the innings of Sanchez, which could approach 210 BEFORE any playoff games. Estrada has a bad back. Happ has never thrown more than 170 ish innings, and Stroman is coming off almost a full season off from injury. Giving the guys the extra day between starts seems pretty smart to me.

This would be ideal.

Keep looking at Colorado's outfield and wondering Gonzalez is expensive

Blackmon is locked up but both are 30

Plus side they both are LH hitters

And Colorado is cheap!

Would you move Pillar, Pompey,

Sean Reid Foley, for starters and see what else it may take???

Pillar + Pompey + SRF for Cargo? lol.

And who plays CF? Saunders?

...I wouldn't even trade Pillar straight up for Cargo

Cargo has pretty big home/road splits in his career, and we DO need to have a CF. Ignoring that, rotating as appropriate Bautista, Cargo, and Edwin between OF, 1B, and DH wouldn't be terrible, and Cargo's contract is up after next year I think. I kind of think keeping Smoak vs righties and Colabello vs lefties when he returns should produce decent results at a fraction of the cost.

Cargo as you call him last I checked plays RF!!!

Plus I want both so hence Blackmon

Who plays CF would play CF!!!

Ps I want both so Batz when back can DH. and SMOAK becomes a bench piece !!!

His road Splits he is still pretty good on the Road .279 ave, .337 obp,

.413 slg , .750 ops is not bad, I will give you he has hit more then half his HR a home but it's not like hitters lose their HR powers when they play in taranta either!!!

No. You absolutely don't trade SRF

This. Hell f***ing no to that. Sam to the idea of trading Tellez.

As much as I would like to add someone like Gray, the Jays don't have the prospects to pull it off, nor can they afford to trade prospects at this point.

They can upgrade without losing meaningful prospects this trade deadline. They just need a competent outfielder/first baseman and another reliever.

I would take a flyer on Melvin Upton Jr if San Diego would pretty much give him away and eat half his salary next year.

I don't like that attitude. What if you get a controllable young player like Myers or Gray? There's always a good deal to be had.
