bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Author Posted June 10, 2016 Half ass game day thread resulted in a half assed effort from the Jays
AdamLindsMom Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Hendriks hasn't been good this year either. He's been hurt but 2.75 fip/xfip and 10+ k/9, <1 bb/9 in SSS.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Anything at 93 or 94? Or was it just 91-92 and one 95? He was throwing a cutter FFS. Its obviously going to be slower than a fastball. Did you not see the movement?
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Maybe the plan was to throw cutters so they wouldn't knock one out. He didn't throw many pitches. Maybe, you could be correct? It just seems weird since Osuna is usually a very FB heavy pitcher.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I'm discussing the season so far with a friend and he keeps telling me to give up because "they're just not a good team". I'm not willing to concede that, I still think there's a good team in there somewhere. Right now it's a team of guys having career-worst seasons. Everyone in the lineup except Saunders is s***ing the bed. Rotation has been a pleasant surprise though.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Stroman to bullpen, bring up Hutch. Stroman to AAA
Governator Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Maybe, you could be correct? It just seems weird since Osuna is usually a very FB heavy pitcher. He's probably tired as you mentioned and didn't want to gas himself further.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Orioles with runner in scoring position: Ground out to advance runner. Sac fly to score runner. Jays with runners in scoring position: Strike out trying to hit home run. Strike out trying to hit home run. That's why as a lesser team they are a better team than us. Because they failed better? I'll give you that the Jays have been infuriating when it comes to contact, but a GO and a SF aren't anything to be impressed with. Martin grounded out with two guys on, but that was a DP because the Jays had more guys on base. Machado makes two outs v. Osuna if there was a guy on first. I don't even think the Orioles are a bad team, but I don't exactly think this is what makes them good.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 He's probably tired as you mentioned and didn't want to gas himself further. Quite possible. If that's the case though, some blame can still be placed on Gibbons.
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Offense still not good. It was looking like it until they got shut down again. Stro not getting it done again as well.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 This stupid "silver linings" for losing narrative. With this lineup, this should not even be in the consideration.
Belliss101 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I'm past the point of caring after a loss
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Quite possible. If that's the case though, some blame can still be placed on Gibbons. Dude, stop. Even if you're right that Osuna is being used too frequently there is nothing to suggest that this is affecting his performance yet. This isn't on Gibby just because you're predicting future problems. Sometimes teams lose. Sometimes a team's starter throws batting practice.
Belliss101 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Have you watched this lineup this year? They should be selling everything they possibly could if they aren't within 3 games off the division at the all star break.
Governator Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Quite possible. If that's the case though, some blame can still be placed on Gibbons. I'm not defending Gibbons, Osuna should be rested, but he still pitched well. That's baseball.

You're right. THey should have swung for the fences and tried for a homerun. Machado changes his approach if a guy is on first.....

I'm sure that was precisely what he was trying to do. I'm sure he knew his weak hit would be just slow enough and that Rickard would have gotten just the right jump to reach third on a ball to the left side.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Have you watched this lineup this year? They should be selling everything they possibly could if they aren't within 3 games off the division at the all star break. They are like 2.5 games out of the 2nd WC so they'll have to dig themselves into a much bigger hole than just further back of the East. I'm leaning towards favoring selling as well for the long-term betterment of the team, but I want the Jays to make the playoffs because it's more fun that way. I'll be happy with either scenario, but don't be around .500 in July. That's all I ask. No more 51-50 ********. Either lead a WC spot or be way out of it. The Jays have a huge opportunity to sell a ton of vets at the deadline to soften the blow after this season. If they are not in the race, they desperately need to take advantage of it.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 It's about the approach dude Okay. And what was in the approach that was so different from what resulted in a Martin double play?
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 It sure would help if Edwin were conributing. Replacement-level production from a guy you count on to give you a 150 wRC+ is hard to swallow.

BTS Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I don't think we should expect 150 wRC+, but 125 is reasonable. 125 is still a disappointing slip. He's been at 150 for the last 4 years.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Pretty exciting game. I think it was a pretty decent effort from the Jays with all things considered. Orioles have a stacked offense and executed better at the plate. It was really a game that came down to the bullpens and the O's got the job done. Tough loss, but not a badly played game. I don't think much of Tyler Wilson but the Jays just have too much dead weight in the lineup right now. He's the kind of pitcher this team would have devastated last year. They seem to be paying the price for rushing Travis up, hopefully it's something he can bounce back from though. As for Stroman, it would have been nice to have gotten a better performance from him but I felt there was a real possibility that the O's may have torched him this evening so not a bad effort with all things considered. He gave the team the opportunity to win the game. Should be a fun match-up tomorrow. Hopefully Estrada gives us another gem.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 125 is still a disappointing slip. He's been at 150 for the last 4 years. You could tell the decline was going to inevitable happen. Body has been breaking down and losing bat speed.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 O's > Jays and its not really even close I say we are equal. We have had about as difficult schedule as there could be. It will get easier and the O's will finally get tougher. Should bring us to equality.
