Jays Acquire Jason Grilli for Sean Ratcliffe

I assume he meant when he was on with Tim and Sid(Jeff Blair) and said how we went into Gibbys office asking him what the hell he thought he was doing using Grilli in the 8th (his debut game) and Gibby fired back "Well, you traded for him didn't you? When should I use him?" Or something along those lines. Atkins was smiling and laughing about it, but, it did seem pretty odd.

 

I think Atkins point was how Grilli probably just got into Toronto and was probably adjusting to things. Atkins said something to Gibby like "Did you see what he was doing before the game?"

Floyd looks impressive under small sample sizes but he really doesn't have the kind of talent that's needed to be a late inning reliever. I don't even see a lot of movement in his high velocity pitches and he's basically a one trick pony.

 

I like him a lot more in a spot-starter role or in mop-up duty.

Not sure I agree with this order, but going into 2016 I liked this pen and still think it can come around. We are seeing small signs of that. I'm also encouraged our rotation can backfill with Chavez, Floyd and Hutch when Sanchez goes to pen. If our offense lights up that should be enough depth. I like that mgm is trying to add more with Grilli etc.

 

I agree... If you read through it it looks pretty sustainable. Health really becomes the factor that we have to be concerned about. Cecil's a must have in the pen and any injuries to him affects are depth extremely.

 

Pretty much I see the AL east as a 3 person race... Boston... Orioles or Yankees, Jays. I have a hard time believing that the Yankees have the offense to really make a playoff push but their bullpens just too elite.. And the Orioles their rotation is garbage but their pen and offense is incredible... Rays are dog-s***.

 

I think the past 2 years would have been our best chance to re-load and take the division by storm and give our team another championship but they botched it and it's a missed opportunity. I kinda worry that we missed our window, but we should at least be competitive.

Sure, but, what does he really have to adjust to? He knows Martin & he's been in the bigs for 16 seasons.

I will go on record and say grilli will be one of our better relievers going forward and especially during the summer.

 

I hope he continues with what he showed so far. was scary today, but he did have to to get 5 outs
