2lowitzki Verified Member Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 If our batting is continue to become a problem until second month of the season, I have to say they have to let their hitting coach go.. I think it is hitting coach's duty to fix the problem, but looks like he completely failed. If they lose both series this week against the Yankees and the Red Sox, I have to say he is on pins and needles... PS: Pete Walker is not safe too...

Why are people so quick to blame Gibby and the coaches... The players have been laying a big s*** on the field.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 No. We have 6-7 usually good veteran hitters. It's not the hitting coach's fault that they're almost all underperforming.

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 If anyone thinks Bautista, Donaldson, Tulo, EE will change their approach because of a batting coach you guys are crazy. The only ones that will listen are the batters like Goins and Thole, a superstar isn't going to change their approach because of some next guy. The offence is just stinking up and watching pitches too much
Statman Verified Member Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Gibbons being Gibbons with bullpen management, Encarnacion replacement level (0.0 WAR), Martin WELL below replacement level (-0.9 WAR), Tulo's 85wRC+, Bautista's natural decline and Drew Storen being a complete trainwreck is why this team is where it is. The problem with this team is the established leadership and performance of the veteran core.

Apart from Osuna and Biagini everyone is trash. You can't keep exhausting those two, someone's gotta step up. Storen and Cecil are s*** this season and they were supposed to be the other 2 that don't have question marks on them

BTS Community Moderator Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 What a steep decline for Jacoby. He was amazing last season, one of the best hitting coaches in recent memory. Now he's terrible. Weird.

Weird. It's weird. It's almost as if hitting coaches have little to no impact on good hitters with 5-10 years of MLB experience. Or something.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 It's time to start over with a different set of players and managers The current crop will not take us to a championship and may not even finish .500. it would be stupid to waste the opportunity to cash in on these aging and in some cases aged assets
Flashman Verified Member Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I don't have a position on this, but Jacoby is receiving an unconditional defence in many quarters. If the hitting coach has no impact -- why hire one at all? If the hitting coach has some impact but should not be fired for an underperforming lineup -- should he just be given the job for life? If the hitting coach is necessary and is accountable -- then when do they warrant the hot seat treatment?

I heard the players aren't listening to Brooks and that they're doing whatever they want at the plate.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I feel like we've been having pretty good at bats all year. Wearing down pitchers quite well. The only question that needs to be asked, why are these hitters missing their pitches?

Teams with elite bullpens, you want to get to the starter, not the bullpen. In this case you don't want to wear out the starting pitcher.

vic city Verified Member Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Well, speaking for Pillar, he seems to always take the 1st pitch for a strike and quite often it's the best pitch he sees all at bat. Tulo has been like that too but he's been better of late.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I didn't realize you were Pillar's spokesmen. He is and makes good money doing it too.

It's also true that maybe he could try letting the pen start innings, instead of always having them come in with runners at 2nd and 3rd and none out?

Yeah but even in low leverage situations and a runner on they find a way to inherit him. Also as far as I know inherited runs don't effect their personal statistics like FIP and those numbers are still bad.. You definitely have a point, but I think this is more of an issue of Gibby leaving starters out just a bit too long.
