nextyear Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Why is Goins batting? lol Just mailing this game in. They want everyone to understand why he needs to be sent down to AAA just in case some fans still support him.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 What a f***ing managing joke. f*** right off, no reason not to pinch hit that useless f*** here. It's like they don't give a f***. They don't. It's a complete middle finger. Who was saying this season can't be anything but a win-win at the beginning of the season? Glory? Yeah, no, this is Atlantis right now and there's no way to pull it out of the ocean.

Glory? Yeah, no, this is Atlantis right now and there's no way to pull it out of the ocean. Yep that was me. Make the playoffs again? Good. Stink up the joint forcing the team to trade vets at the deadline to help the lifeless farm system? Good. I guess the one downside is if the team does nothing and then finishes sub-.500 or around .500 anyway, but I hope it doesn't come to that.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 It really is remarkable how no one can do anything in this lineup. I mean, yeah, another year older, but this is on another level.
Belliss101 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 No trade clauses can f*** the best laid plans right in the poop-chute. I find it hard to believe Jose or Edwin will decline trades to contenders and be happy taking a back seat to September call ups getting the playing time
Praxis Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I know Tulo has a no trade, but surely if he watches JB/EE leave and things are still this bad he'll want out and accept a move? He has value to some teams I'm sure.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I find it hard to believe Jose or Edwin will decline trades to contenders and be happy taking a back seat to September call ups getting the playing time EE will demand a trade after Jimmy Paredes steals his spot in the lineup anyway. That's one no-trade clause we won't need to worry about.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Why do people hate Pillar so much? His bat is not THAT bad. Goins and Thole are aids tho Pillars not too bad, I dont trust him in any situation to come with a clutch hit though.

I appreciate all the laughs I can get right now.

Hal Johnson Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I'm pretty sure I have Wilner figured out. I believe he is genuinely just as pissed off as many people on this board get when the Jays lose, and when they play poorly. He wants to lash out, say so and so sucks, etc., but he can't. It doesn't fit his "character". So, he becomes passive aggressive, and deliberately obtuse on Twitter and on his show (more so than usual) as a way to lash out. Maybe this isn't news to people here, but I haven't had that much exposure to the guy. He's annoying as all hell, but kind of fascinating in a behavioral psychology kind of way. LOL!
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Edwin Jose Thole Dick all gone before next year. Most likely before all star game for some of them. + Cecil Storen Saunders Smoak
ProfessionalAtBat Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I have faith in Shapiro. I'll take the collapse, no other choice and watch him build a substainable winning team
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Don't do this IW. If you lose hope, we are lost. I will be the hero this board needs; the candle in the darkest night.

I guess the one downside is if the team does nothing and then finishes sub-.500 or around .500 anyway, but I hope it doesn't come to that. Hovering around 0.500 would be brutal. There are a ton of pieces hitting free agency in the offseason, and letting them all walk for nothing while also missing the playoffs would be tough to recover from. Encarnacion, Bautista, Dickey, Saunders, Cecil, Storen, Smoak, Floyd is a lot of wins to replace, especially with $85M already committed to five guys (Tulo, Martin, Donaldson, Estrada, Happ), only one of which is above average. It really is for the best that they sell if it looks like the playoffs aren't going to happen. They need assets to actually field a team in 2017. It would be nice if there was a way to rid themselves of Tulo and Martin and create clean slate in the offseason, but that's probably a pipe dream.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 The key moving forward is player development. That's how the Giants are good all the time. Seems like every year they pluck a Panik or Duffy from the minors, plug them in the lineup, and get 3+ WAR out of them.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 + Cecil Storen Saunders Smoak that's a pretty good start to a rebuild already. Trick is trading mid season so we are not just letting everyone go. Saunders, EE, jose have value maybe Smoak, the rest are DFA candidates.

I'm not sure what we can get for Dickey, Smoak, Saunders, etc, but you would think the Jays would get a few players with upside for JB and EE, and that will help in 2017 and beyond. I will not shed a tear if this team collapses. AA made this bed, and someone else has to clean it up. I'd rather start the clean up now and make the down period as short as possible.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I mean the team isn't in THAT dire of a situation. Farm systems can be turned around fast. Only starter we lose is Dickey. We lose some RP. We lose Bautista, EE and I believe Smoak and Saunders. This is who we have coming back next year: C- Martin 1B- ??? 2B- Travis SS- Tulo 3B- Donaldson LF- ??? CF- Pillar RF- Pompey (?) DH- ??? That's not complete s***. We should have some payroll flexibility too with all those guys coming off the books. With some shrewd moves we could be alright. It's not pretty but not all hope is lost. s*** not all hope is lost for this season either.

It's going to be an interesting 2017. With all the free agents gone, the team looks something like: C - Martin 1B - 2B - Travis 3B - Donaldson SS - Tulowitzki CF - Pillar RF - Pompey LF - DH - Bench - SP - Stroman SP - Sanchez SP - Happ SP - Estrada SP - Hutchison BP - Osuna, Biagini, Loup, Girodo That's a bad team with two albatross contracts, a lot of holes, and about $100M committed. If things go south this year, you actually have a decision looming about whether you want to trade or extend Donaldson.
