Just like "ya know we kinda f***ed up with only giving you 8, so not only is your appeal denied but now you're suspended for 14 games. Thanks!" I know it can't happen that way, but it would be hilarious.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 If they reduce his suspension it's truly pathetic.

Governator Community Moderator Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Nolan Ryan did the same thing back in the day after a few of his famous dust-ups. But Nolan Ryan threw 7 no hitters. Walk the walk.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 But Nolan Ryan threw 7 no hitters. Walk the walk. Ya know tha famous fight he had with Robin Ventura when Ventura charged the mound and Nolan got him in the headlock? Ryan wasn't even ejected from that game even though he landed 6 shots to Ventura's head.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 No way that they will Several people in Baseball thought it could be cut to 5. After recent developments they should actually look to punish him further and the Rangers organization for making him look like a cult hero. Its all fun and games until you lose draft picks. MLB can send a message and shut this s*** down for good but they won't.

It's always cool to jump on the hate bandwagon when it's not a player from your team getting hit.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 IMO this is more damaging to baseball's image than anything Reyes or Chapman may have done. They agree, during the Rangers game yesterday, they announced it's cancelled.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 And yet if it happened to Votto, they'd be 100% behind him and Roughed would be villified. It's always cool to jump on the hate bandwagon when it's not a player from your team getting hit. Actually I didn't think the thread was that bad. Many mentioned hard slides, beanings and punches being bad for baseball. But the hatred for Bautista is real. I wonder if he or Harper would win a poll for the most hated player at this point. I'd also like to add that Blue Jays fans should learn how to get headlines in a positive way (I have to admit this is a very small amount of fans that did this) http://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/1031993 A Texas barbecue restaurant that thanked Rougned Odor for his punch to Jose Bautista by offering him free food for life drew the ire of angry Toronto Blue Jays fans. After hearing of Heim Barbecue's promotion - which also included T-shirts for fans to purchase - Blue Jays supporters began to leave owner Travis Heim death threats on his voicemail. "Well, we did make a funny shirt, so it's understandable that people would want to 'murder my whole family' in response," Heim said Monday, according to the Dallas Observer's Beth Rankin. "I guess this is just the cost of going 'viral.' I understand people are *******s, especially on social media, but the death threats and saying they are going to come to Texas and murder my whole family?" I did find this at least a little better. Along with the threats, Heim revealed Facebook users based in Canada began to give his Forth Worth restaurant overwhelmingly negative reviews on the social media site, despite his establishment still lacking a physical location. "I think we're up to six fake one-star reviews on Facebook now, all by people who live in Canada," Heim said. "But the worst was a guy who said him and his wife got food poisoning and were sick for weeks, urging people not to come to our place."
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 ^ That's literally the response to any controversy, though. Every minor thing ends up with a few trolls coming out of the woodwork with threats. A huge portion of fans would never even do that.

And I don't mean literally old crusty guy, I mean mentally old crusty guy. nah man i cant just chalk this up to something like that. most people hate bautista. there is no reason to think that a cincinnati reds board is full of old crusty thinking guys. there are some for sure but the general sentiment of that thread is 'screw bautista'. i think there were 1 or 2 guys who didnt outright hate him but even then they hedged a lot.

ChrisS Verified Member Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Rangers fans are sore losers and I cant believe how butt-hurt they are over a bat flip. Had a customer at work today, an older Texas Ranger fan from Texas who works up here now. Got into an argument with him. Him: Bautista should have gotten more games, that was a dirty slide, hes such a dirty player, everyone in the league hates him. Me: The slide was late but it was spikes down, hands down and he slid through the bag, he wasnt attempting to injure Odor. Have you seen some of the slides Odor has done in the past? Him: Blah blah blah, Canadians dont understand baseball, they should stick to hockey. Throwing beer bottles on the field. They didnt even understand the ball was live when Odor scored in the top of the 7th and they hit a baby. Me: They were beer cans actually, are you telling me nothing has ever been thrown onto the field in an mlb game south of the border? I doubt even the majority of fans in the States understand/know every single rule. The baby was hit with spray, I was there and saw it with my own eyes. Him: So you were there and throwing beer too? Me: Nope, not my style. I have no problem with Texas confronting Bautista, he is cocky and plays with an edge but dont you think its cowardly to wait until his final at bat in the final season game to "send a message"? Him: blah blah everyone hates him, he sucks, his defence sucks, noone is going to pay him anything, he is greedy blah blah. Me: I agree, his defence has regressed but he will still get paid for his offence, a lot of ball clubs would want him for their DH. Him: The bat flip HR wasnt even that great. Me: Yeah sure it wasnt. Biggest sporting moment in the city in the past 1/4 century. Guy gets his career defining moment, capping off one of the craziest innings in the history of the game. The most talked about event in mlb in years. Him: The Jays were lucky last year, all they did was hit homeruns. Me: Yeah because their OBP and hitting werent top or close to the top across all metrics or anything. 891 runs is lucky?? Him: Donaldson had a very lucky year. Me: lol thanks for the laughs. Why are you guys so hurt by a bat flip? You guys were 2-0 up in the series and only have yourselves to blame. You do realize in game 1 and 2 of the ALDS the rangers were chirping the fans, wiping asses with rally towels etc Him: Blah blah the Toronto media is biased. Me: Yeah im sure the Texas media arent biased at all. The whole time I could tell how upset this guy was about the bat flip and his hatred for Bautista. All fans have been on the wrong end of some pretty tough losses but I dont hate the Bruins because they came back to win in game 7 being down 3 goals with 11 minutes left. The Leafs only had themselves to blame. The amount of butthurt Ive seen from some of these rangers fans online and now in real life is pathetic.

I honestly hate talking about the MLB in real life like 99% of the time. Especially to people who know I love baseball and have suddenly became fans. Makes my ears bleed.

But I know what they mean when you have friends that are just learning basically and they have a Buck a Pat mentality because that's all they listen to.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 So then explain to them why they're wrong or just change the topic to something baseball-related that someone of their knowledge level will agree with. Baseball is best enjoyed collectively. That is objectively false. Baseball is best enjoyed however one enjoys it best.

Baseball is best enjoyed collectively. I think you're grossly underestimating the type of people Stangstag and others are referring to... "change the topic to something baseball-related that someone of their knowledge level will agree with" huh? Are we supposed to talk about how after you get to first you run to second or something? I mean I guess even the dumbest of baseball fans know Pillar is great defensively and we can talk about that...but that inevitably changes to a discussion on how awesome Ben Revere was and how they Jays should have re-signed him and never traded David Price to the Red Sox......and then I want to stab myself in the face with a fork... Did someone post the pic of the 10 year old doing a huge bat flip, then dancing down the first base line after hitting a HR in little league? Maybe I saw that elsewhere (who can keep track)....anyway....I loved Jose's bat flip and in general, at the MLB level have no problem with them.....but I definitely don't think we want 10 year olds rocking massive bat flips in little league. Is that hypocritical? or am I right?

The kind of guy who cried when the Jays didn't re-sign Price and now puffs his chest out and is SO glad the Jays didn't re-sign him because his ERA is 6 LOL
