intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 I stopped to think what Gibby did wrong and I can really only think of one: -Pinch hitting Zeke instead of saving him as a runner. He still had Martin and Dominguez on the bench, and unless he wanted to burn Saunders he was going to lose Zeke by using him in the catcher's hitting spot. Pretty short sighted and, honestly, kind of terrible. May have been a huge factor if he could have run in the 8th for Saunders. I don't mind him not bunting with Goins because... Goins sucks and can't bunt. When he did bunt in the 9th, he almost cost two outs. Dude is useless at the plate and his glove isn't a good enough justification for keeping him in the lineup. Barney is almost equal defensively, so might as well let him see if he can do something with the bat. This loss is on the team, though, as most other losses are. The offense was at its nadir today. No way should Dyson have been able to wriggle out of that situation with a lead facing four of the league's scariest hitters and fewer than two outs.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 4 guys on the Jays still hitting below .200...ouch. This is why we are losing, simple as that.

vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 He has options. Could be demoted. Might be a good idea to not even wait for Travis to do it. He's been pretty bad. Yeah, this might need to happen. I was going to say that I'd be fine with him as the backup to Barney for now, but if he's up here it seems like Gibbons will just continue running him out there.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 They're bad every year in one run games. At this point everyone expects it. This idiotic stat is exacerbated by how good the offense is. They lose more 1-run games than they win because of their ability to blow up the other team's staff. Wins are usually by multiple runs rather than by 1, which is how every fan should want it. The 1-run losses are all that remain.

In hindsight, we got pretty lucky with the Pillar throw to second, they could have done more damage there as well.
JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 10+ Ks for the 12th time this year, ugh
glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 There's still time to turn things around, but if the MLB team doesn't do well this season, man it's going to be a boring ass summer. The farm system sucks ass, the big league team is old, the window is about half way shut on the Bats/Eddie era, and either way we have to witness another full season of Sling Blade playing his own personal hunches/favorites over percentages/common sense.

This is kind of why this loss stings so hard. The Rangers goofed as hard as I've seen there and the Jays still couldn't muster up a win despite having the ball placed nicely on a tee for them in the 8th.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 One thing though, If we look at the players who have played well Saunders-Donaldson-Pillar-Stroman-Sanchez-Estrada-Happ-Osuna
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 But Floyd gave up something. Our pen suxxxxx Floyd shouldn't have been put in in that position... Especially at home. I think you still gotta put your faith in either Cecil or Storen unless they're injured
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Perez, Lewis, Holland. Pls have that get the f***ing hitting going.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 +1 Run Differential but 2-7 in one run games.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Russell Martin has been an Borderline Elite Catcher for a decade, I think its in poor form to say that he was on PEDs. He's had +-five seasons with a wRC at or below 100. That's pretty good for a catcher of his defensive capabilities, but it shows that Martin has the capability of being a bad catcher. Not to mention he was performing extremely well in the past 2 years at his age. That is abnormal for a catcher.

That he happened to give up the winning run doesn't change that.

gbill2004 Verified Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 So the Martin contract was a mistake and it's sounding like he's about to be suspended for ped usage.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 So the Martin contract was a mistake and it's sounding like he's about to be suspended for ped usage. where the f*** are you getting this information from?
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 It could be that Bautista/Encarnacion are just off to slow starts. Tulo of 2015 was bad and nothing like his previous self, but this year he is worse. I think Martin is/was on PED's. Smoak was overrated last year and he's still bad. Pillar has actually been doing well. I think this team is too passive. Even the pitches to E5 for his last at bat were balls he could have done damage. But he is too passive. It's either walk or double/homer for him. I've read a lot of mentions on this message board about Russel Martin and steroids, am I missing something here? Was he ever linked to them in any way? If not what's with all the suspicions?
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 where the f*** are you getting this information from? Have you not read his posts before? They're either about boners, Barry Davis, or stupid rumours that he just makes up.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Nothing on twitter about Martin and PEDs

Could be wrong though. ....not that i think he's about to be suspended for PED use though.

I did hear that there is a Blue Jay who tested positive and is currently going through the appeal process. Another poster named Martin as the rumoured Jay.
