THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Ryan Goins is the 3rd worst hitter in baseball only to be outdone by Russell Martin and Erick Aybar. That sentence is so sad, I wish I could unread it.
Statman Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 That sentence is so sad, I wish I could unread it. Yeah. For context. Erick Aybar - 6 wRC+ Russell Martin - 13 wRC+ Ryan Goins - 17 wRC+
CHRIS Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Wow, he's really bad. Discuss. That final AB last night pretty much sums it up for me. Just so overmatched.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 We're talking about his hitting when this guy still can't even bunt properly. Gotta put in your work in the offseason kid.

I think the last two months of 2015 put into his head that he was an all-star stud 2nd baseman and not a guy whose job offensively was to move runners over and just try to have solid at bats. When I saw him taking home run cuts in the 1st week of the season I was like OMG that little stretch of success last year was the worst thing for him.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 wtf happened to Russel Martin. I think we all knew Goins sucked but for Martin to be the 2nd worst hitter in all of baseball is truly messed up.
Rovert Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I thought Goins would turn out to be a pretty good 2nd Basemen , at this point if he isn't doing flips & s*** throwing people out hes gota go.

When I saw him taking home run cuts in the 1st week of the season I was like OMG that little stretch of success last year was the worst thing for him. My thoughts also. It is too bad that he couldn't accept a role of getting on base anyway he could. However, I also noticed that he was trying to get walks but as a mediocre hitter the umps weren't giving him ball 4 when it was just off the plate. I think Bautista and Encarnacion would have complained at many strike calls. Edited May 19, 2016 by nextyear
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Reading about Travis smashing in AAA is getting me stoked that I won't have to watch this dumpster fire continue for much longer.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I think we can finally put this one to bed, Ryan Goins officially sucks eggs. And no Gruber, his swing adjustment or whatever the f*** people were hyping up last year hasn't changed him one bit.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 He's almost certainly playing injured. Must be the neck because he looks fine running wise.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 time to option Goins, hes done nothing but hurt this team this year. Sub par defense by his standards and an absolute black hole with the stick. Travis went 3 for 4 tonight in buffalo, he looks ready. if they have to, they could DH him for a game or two and let barney man 2nd

nextyear Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 My prediction is that Travis will be back and on the field by Sunday and Goins sent down. Goins got his chance and blew it. (However it is just baseball) For Goins he needs to go to Buffalo and work on his swing. Or get a 9 to 5 job somewhere, which isn't bad either.

Maahfaace Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Why would they bring up Travis just to DH? That's dumb i just meant if he needs a rest from the field from multiple games in a row, this team needs a spark offensively and Travis potentially could bring that
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Although they haven't said it the series at New York is his tentative return date. He basically said so himself today. Gives him a few days to get more comfortable diving for balls etc..

Gives him a few days to get more comfortable diving for balls etc.. That's good news. I'm more confident that they send down Goins now not Barney. Goins didn't even get in the game as a pinch runner for Jimmy Paredes and once they did put Goins in as a defensive replacement he screwed up that ground ball. I guess they turned to him before Barney though so I'm still not 100% sure.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Goins has options, he needs to go down and maybe, just maybe, he can work on some stuff to work his way back. He hasn't even been the glove machine that he was last year...
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Someone needs to go all Tonia Harding on Goins. The team needs to be saved from itself.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Someone needs to go all Tonia Harding on Goins. The team needs to be saved from itself. Judging by his game, somebody already has.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Comes in as a defensive replacement in extras. Ball hit to his right. Not an easy chance but one he has to make, given he has nothing but a glove. He cant make it. We were fortunate Biagini got him at 2B. So done with this Goins.
puphood Verified Member Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Or at least learn to bunt. Is there anyone on this team that can bunt?

Although I agree with you, if you PVR'ed the game you will see that Goins covered 2nd and you can hear him call for the ball so he deserves some credit for being alert on the caught stealing. Biagini nodded his head to the catcher and was getting set to throw so we can't assume that play would have been made without the help and alertness of Goins.

When a runner trying to steal (and they were all waiting for that) breaks early I should f***ing hope Goins would cover and yell for the ball.

You don't have to hope, the play was made. We all agree that Goins should be sent to AAA - what's the hostility for? The runner was put out and obviously it was a team play, Biagini didn't do it on his own.
